Indiana State Police, for the most part have become total asswipes under the current ISP Super. Most folks in the state view 'em the same as I do.

They drive Chargers with fancy wheels, Mustangs dressed the same, plain Ford Vics, Suburbans and Tahoe's all with dark tinted windows. They are also piloting white Harley's, and are running in packs.

Indy is running two Vette's taken from drug deals, so if a Vette wants to "entice" you into a race, don't bite. Just smile and give 'em a couple of middle fingers.

This weekend is the weekend we pay 'em more money to crackdown on "un-safe" drivers....it's "Lets Green Indiana" time. Our tax dollars at work.

The young cops and especially the Mustang/Charger/H-D guys are the biggest pricks, so be careful. You've been warned.

They love to sit behind/under bridges on the interstates, and in farm driveways on the two/four lanes.

The county guys (Sheriff's) usually aren't too bad, and will allow you a little room over the posted.

Smitty,

I so agree with you. Our tax money buys these pricks the toys they use to harass us on a daily basis. I travel 37 between Martinsville and Indy every day to work and have to deal with this. They say it is for safety but I have driven this road for 40 years and the deaths on the road are from running red lights not speed. They do nothing to stop this because the money is greater writing speeding tickets.

Of all cops I have no respect for the Indiana State Police.

One of the worst things that could have happened to the police in general is giving them tough-looking cars and tactical uniforms. Now they all think they're friggin' Rambo or Robocop or something. I understand that real criminals are stopped from time to time and the cops need to be prepared for violent reactions, but that does not mean that they have to treat everyone with that steroid-induced agression crap they pull all the time now. I guess they're just PO'd that the steroids they feel the need to guzzle takes its toll in more.... personal areas <ahem>.

The next worst thing we did was allow the roadblock. Stop everyone and demand their "papers" (license, registration, proof of insurance). Sounds like the Gulag, not America. Stop everyone to catch the 1-2% in violation of something?!?! And all they get is a ticket?!?! How about we send out real punishments to the real criminals and stop harassing those of us who are essentially law-abiding? What a concept! If you're in an accident and are drunk, REAL jail time. If you have an 8-inch self propelled howitzer, fine. If you kill someone with it... REAL jail time. We are soft on real criminals because it costs so much to keep them in prison, but we pay for it elsewhere in these special enforcement efforts, overwork leading to decay in the court system, direct costs of the crimes commited by those who have not been punished hard enough to deter either themselves or new criminals and most importantly we pay for it in our liberty.

As you see... you've hit a nerve here. Don't even get me started on this "extra special week of enforcement" crap.

At any rate, Smitty, you may be able to tell that I agree with you in principle and I thank you for the heads-up.

You'd think we'd learn some lessons from people dealing with traffic that do it better than us.

Everything from the idiocy of "yielding" to the high-speed traffic when entering a freeway (yeah... accelerate and merge while looking behind you.. that makes sense) to having arbitrary "limits" just so that people can be tagged for violating them.

I have driven in Europe, especially in Germany, and once you do that.... you realize how bas-akwards we seem to be doing things when it comes to traffic and roads. Now there are some things I couldn't stand, but that had to do with being a foreigner, and regulations and such.... but for actual driving... some of the common sense stuff.... if we could only get there.... Frankly it's too complicated to even explain... so I'll just say.. trust me. It's really nice to drive somewhere where the "authorities" are truly more concerned about overall safety and well-being than giving out tickets... For that matter... some states should just look at the successes of other states... I guess that's the price to pay for each state having their own rules. I totally support that idea, but sometimes.... it seems like a little more consistency would be beneficial.

Sorry to hear your people trained to protect and serve are harassing the local's. In NY our Police are rather forgiving on the roads. It is the DMV that has launched an assult , all motorvehicle fee's have been raised and they are issuing new plates. There is nothing wrong with the current plates they just want the renewal fee's if you wish to keep your current numbers or letters you can for an extra $25.00

Funny, I ride across I70 and Rt 40 thru Richmond to Indianapolis once maybe twice a week and I haven't been stopped. I bought my RV in New Castle and spend a lot of time in Nashville, In, that is so I put in a lot of miles there and have never had a problem, and I have Ohio plates. Maybe there's another reason they're making these stops...

But I do agree on the uniforms and vehicles, they give a negative, aggressive impression. I always like seeing an officer in the old style five star hat and make it a point to complement one wearing the hat....

I rode my Vision to the GP last year, yes it was the only Vision that I saw. There are so many crotch rockets around the track, all you have to do is somewhat ride with some common sense.

blowing steam is a good thing. Virginia, affectionally known as the Communist State (it's a commonwealth) will have the Wolf Pack out targeting speeders at high accident locations such as I-81, I-64, and I-95. Personally I appreciate that very much as it does help a little. All three of those routes are known for devastating accidents the Pack seems to calm it down for a while.

I've not been pulled unfairly in a very long time. And anytime I've been pulled I was in the wrong, and I can't argue with that.

I ride at a speed where I don't need to slow down if I see a cop and I'll usually throw up a hand and wave as a thank you jesture. for some of you that might not be a popular thing to do, but I see the LEO on my side so I can ride another day.

Our new and aggressive cops here in Indiana need to have a hand raised every time you pass one.

With only the middle finger extended!

I know one guy who was...and that is WAS...best friends with one of newbies. He arrested the guy's wife for going 3 mph over the limit. And that's more the norm than the exception. Most of these new guys are coming from towns of less than 2,000 and believe that because they're ISP they are somebody. What they are are punks, afraid of the dark, basically without any higher education, many with GED's (not that GED's are bad), who have never been able to make more than minimum wage.

Guess the cop is getting his beer somewhere else now.

i guess we all have our share of cop experience, and by know means stand up for any of the bad ones. I know I've had my share to include being told I was on the verge of being arrested if I opened my mouth one more time.

I've also had my share of second chances, so I've learned my boundaries. I know now what not to do in Indyanner the next time I blow through.

here's something you'd expect better of from a police officer

Disregard! I had a brain fart.
I was at the track just 2 weeks ago and saw them setting up.

All those Red Bull signs cooked my brain.

I don't usually jump into these type of threads but this time I can't help myself. I'm sorry if you get pulled over for going OVER the speed limit. Gee why are you harassing me you big bad policeman in your Gestapo uniform. Please enlighten all of us on what a "real" criminal looks like. When the officer pulls you over do they "know" you? Do you have ANY idea how many officers are killed on the so called routine traffic stop? No you probably don't and probably could care less since in your words they are total asswipes. For the guy who posted he wished this was more like Europe, you've got to be kidding me. Sure lets put cameras everywhere and issue even more tickets.

Ya know I wonder why anyone would want to be an officer these days. Pull over a speeder, why aren't you going after real criminals. Pull over a person of color and you're a racist. Go after illegal immigrants and you're harassing someone who's here only for a job. Get a tactical uniform because it allows you to actually work instead of some stupid dress uniform and you're now in a Nazi uniform. Since it seems this whole topic is based upon stupidity and ASSumptions why don't we just eliminate law enforcement. I mean after all we'd all be so much better off. Yeah that's the ticket!!! Pun intended.

I'm glad to see Smitty loves and respects Police officers so much that inappropriate and unprofessional behavior by a small number of officers causes him so much distress regarding all of the rest.

Smitty is a true fan of justice, law and order.

...Maybe not logic... but certainly justice, law and order.

Right on Smitty! I support all law enforcement too, and am very disappointed when a rouge officer takes advantage of his authority and tarnishes the hard-earned respect that all officers deserve.

Here's something for you to chew on Bill. 394 Indiana police officers have died in the line of duty, 43 of them being State police. Here's a copy from the Officers' Down page for one of these men. After reading it you go right ahead and keep on not respecting them. This gentleman was only stopping to assist a motorist he thought was broken down and it cost him his life!!!!

Indiana State Police
Indiana
End of Watch: Thursday, July 5, 2007

Biographical Info
Age: 41
Tour of Duty: 17 years, 7 months
Badge Number: 5398

Incident Details
Cause of Death: Gunfire
Date of Incident: Thursday, July 5, 2007
Weapon Used: Shotgun
Suspect Info: Committed suicide

Master Trooper David Rich was shot and killed while investigating an apparant stranded vehicle on U.S. 24 near State Road 115, one mile west of Wabash in Wabash County.

Master Trooper Rich, who was on his way home in plainclothes and in an unmarked squad car, stopped to help a motorist he believed was stranded at about 1600 hours. Master Trooper Rich was not aware the man was driving an SUV that his father had reported stolen the previous day from their home in Gaylord, Michigan. Upon approaching the vehicle, the suspect opened fire with a shotgun through the driver's window, striking Master Trooper Rich in the chest who was not wearing a bullet-resistant vest, but had his service weapon drawn.

The suspect reloaded the shotgun and then committed suicide.

Master Trooper Rich had served with the Indiana State Police for over 17½ years and was assigned to the Peru post as a detective. He was survived by his wife, 7-year-old daughter, twin 4-year-old sons, parents, sister and brother, who serves as a captain with the Indiana State Police. His father is a retired Indiana State Police trooper and former two-term Miami County sheriff. In 2008, a Memorial Mile was designated on U.S. 24 on the bypass in Wabash in his honor.

I'm not defending anyone's actions either way, but the prejudice toward police officers are based off of either experience or hearsay. There has been more than enough officers to lose their lives in the line of duty and I'm good friends with several police officers. I hold them in high regards as most law biding citizens. On the flip side of that, and that is where the prejudices jump in, in our expression of freedom we are bound to riduculous laws contrived by a few, such as noise, helmets and so on. It's a hard mix and we can go down long lines of examples, but what is the point? There are folks who think anyone who rides a bike is a 1%er, and there are those who think some motorcycles are too loud or we can save a life if we have tougher helmet laws. most are to appease seemingly the masses.

If we have helmet laws we should have ladder laws, because I stand a better chance of sustaining injuries cleaning my gutters than riding my motorcycle. So in the enforcement of these laws who gets to be the bad guy? The LEO of course. There are a few who like to take it to the limit and make a point of harassment. I've gotten pulled and I could tell the cop had a chip on his shoulder until he saw I was old geezer and his attitude immediately changed. I pulled over as soon as I saw the lights so why did he feel he had to approach me all puffed up? That alone will get the defendant up in the air because I've been pulled by a cocky cop, even though I had respect for the man, he was being a wisenhymer and I responded in like fashion he threatened to lock me up. Well, I didn't put him in the good cop category. I got pulled as a teenager and the trooper who pulled me was the nicest officer I ever met. He even showed me how the radar worked and explained it too me as he wrote my ticket.

My point, beyond typing as many words as I possibly can in cyperspace before obama pulls the plug. I don't think folks who vent are really saying anything bad toward the good officer anymore than those who seem to be defending the actions of bad police officers.

I'll tell you in a minute when there are speed traps if I know of them. Why? Because even you lawbiding citizens will find yourself hot on the throttle in a situation and you'll get pulled and ticketed.

I stand and salute all LEO and their families who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. And may the ones who take advantage of the uniform be found out and taken out. That's all I've got to say about that. Peace Out.
