Hey folks,

Just got back from a ride, hopped off the bike and lo-and-behold there were some nasty scratches on the saddlebags. Worst on the left, but some on the right. Started wondering what it was so felt around inside the bike cover and sure enough there's a nasty, sharp seam right at about saddle-bag height that is likely to be the culprit.

So just a warning. #1 beware if you're using a Tourmaster bike cover.

#2 if anyone has a great product to remove scuffs/scratches from black paint let me know.

Thanks,
Ryan

There is a post here somewhere where the Victory recommended scratch removal procedures and products are posted. Just do a search for scratch removal.
I learned a long time ago to use a bike specific cover. You might look into the Vision half cover. Had mine for 2 years and it fits like a glove with no buffing or scratching.

For scratches on black, I have used a 3M product called Finnesse with a high speed buffer. Most local auto paint and body shops use this to remove swirls or buff out wet sanding when removing orange peel.

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply folks. Going on a long ride tomorrow and will definitely try those afterwards.

Two words for you all, "Liquid Glass." Back in 08 when all us early folks were picking up our Visions this topic and the use of these strips was discussed. I've used Liquid Glass on many bikes over the years and suggested folks spend the $12 for a can at their local autozone and give it a go. Since several have decided to use it and are very happy with the results. Here are the tips:
1. You don't need the LG prep before application, just give the bike a good wash and make sure you get EVERYTHING off before you apply the first coat. If you don't it will seal the dirt on your bike.
2. Apply 3 coats minimum for the first application, allowing 4 hours of hardening time inbetween applications (coats).
3. This is optional but I recommend that you apply a new coat of LG after each wash for the first summer. With each coat the finish will get brighter with greater shine. If you have any minor swirls in your factory paint these will disappear with the increase in coats.
4. If you get a scratch it will be in the liquid glass and not in your paint, so cleaning and then applying a new coat of LG will make it disappear.

Hope this helps....... T

I'm in the process of building up a good coat of "Liquid Glass" on two bikes and I'm very impressed on how good the black Vision is shaping up ,most of the minor swirls/spiderwebs are disappearing and it's looking better than when it came off the dealer's floor. Brian

Well, got home tonight and tried out the 3m product already. Worked like a charm, 30 seconds with the power buffer and those scratches are effectively unnoticable. A little more tomorrow ought to make them perfect. After I wash the bike tomorrow I'm definitely going to apply a coat of the liquid glass!
