This question will be for the tech minded riders of the forum:

Are there batteries available for the Vision that will fit into the existing battery compartment, but offer higher cranking amp options?

I am wondering if I can use a battery with more power?

Thanks

Check this link out.

I used this battery on my HD and will replace my stock battery on the vision (when its time) with one of these also.

I am wondering what is wrong with the stock battery? Mine has given me no problems - going on 2 years. And I use heated seat/grips/vests plus all onboard electronics all winter. Just attach my battery tender when parked.

Its not that there is anything wrong with the stock battery, but after having the same problem discussed on another thread with "high idle" after warm-up, and learning the problem was due to a weakened battery not producing enough cranking amps and the revs being generated by the computer to encourage the charging system to "chrage-up" the battery..........I am going to be replacing the battery soon. Just thought if there was a more powerful battery option out there, I would use this as my replacement option.

This is using the old thought process of "can't hurt, but might help?"

It was my bike that had that issue and the replacement battery ended up being the oem replacement.

Just prior to the repair I was looking into AGM style batteries such as the odyssey. I was also want to see if Optima made one but they dont.

I did however find that there are some mfgs. that make a battery that has a slightly higher CCA than others that are also AGM construction.

Cheap insurance.

Cheap insurance.

My thoughts exactly. When I eventually have to replace my battery, I'm going top of the line. The OEM one has been surprisingly good thus far but I could buy one that will last the life of the bike (as long as I'll have it anyway) and be done with messing around with batteries. At least that's how I justify the expense...

Don't we have the same battery as the Gold Wings?

I had the Oddyssey in my Suzuki and it was fantastic, I didn't even have to fix my decomp when it broke. Lots of power and a big warranty, no maintanance.

Just my humble 2 cent's ( Canadian )

Looks like Amazon has these for $93. Best price I could find.

previous batttery thread...

BTW... I'm still on my original battery and the temps are starting to fall and has started fine below freezing... I'm still thinking I'll go with the Everstart MaXX here soon. Used them before under extreme conditions and it did very well.

Same battery as used in the HD's.... I'll likely replace mine with an Odyssey this summer as I had good luck with them in other bikes. The stock battery just hasn't ever seemed up to speed.

Here is an option for those of you fortunate enough to live close to a Deka Battery Store.

Deka won't tell you this because they are bound under a confidentiality agreement, but they are the maunfactures of all the HD batteries. They make them and then stamp the HD logo on the side.

I tell you this because Deka is a battery manufacturing superstore!!

What I have done for years is take my batteries to a Deka supply store in the Nashville, TN. area. I have been able to purchase replacement batteries for my Harley's at a fraction of the HD retail price. Often times, they will have what they call "2nd's" in there inventory. These are batteries that have defects on the outer coverings. Things like scratches, nicks, chips, etc.... that would never be seen. The last HD replacement I purchased from Deka cost me $36.

I tell you this because it will be my intention to go to Deka and ask what kinds of replacement options they have for the Vision battery. A major manufacture like Deka surely will have some options. The best part should be finding a relatively inexpensive option!

Thanks

The PC545 is a lot smaller in size than the Vision YUSA battery.  The PC680 is a tad bit to tall.

The Vision's YUSA battery is the size of the PC535, but the PC535's terminals are reversed.

The Vision's positive and negative terminals are crossed to get to the battery.

You will see this if you remove the black plastic shroud that you see under the oil cooler.

If you put in the PC535, you could uncross the +/- terminals and just run them straight forard to the battery but that might confuse any wrenches that work on your bike and expect the terminals to be in the OEM position.

Interesting info. The battery in my '99 was 8 years old when I replaced it. It was an OEM and kept on a Battery Tender. I never felt it was under powered. It's funny how batteries are. We all get concerned about them in the winter when the summer is the worse time for them. Anyone remember putting you flashlight batteries in the fridge to make them last longer? Batteries take a beating in the hot summer weather then in the winter when the oil is cold and thick and the engine is cold the weak battery raises it's ugly head. I always recommend when your battery doesn't seem quite up to par to have a load test done to it.
Of course if you have increased your compression with performance parts that may warrant higher CCA. In the last 20 years the only problem I have had with batteries was one cold morning and my S10 wouldn't start. Walked to work in 6 inches of snow. Not happy. Come to find out when the NAPA guy sold me the new belt the week before he sold me the one for A/C equipped trucks. Now I check the part number everytime I buy.
Years ago when I owned my '49 Buick with the 6 volt system I used a heated dipstick. That battery would turn that old straight 8 over with no problem everytime. I suggest a heated dipstick or block heater if you can find one for your bike when living in cold regions.

Ditto on Tennesse Vision's post. I haven't paid full bust out retail for a battery in years. I bought a 500.00 solar system battery for my cabin for 250.00. I bought a 40.00 batter for my coleman on demand water heater for 7 bucks. car batteries etc. and the best part is when you screw up and let them discharge and sit idle they give you a few bucks back for the dead battery.
imho letting discharged batteries sit is the hidden reason the die. you half expect it to be dead after sitting all winter and it is so you don't realize it could have been prevented.

My wife's 1st car was 71 AMC Hornet (yes - it was green) with a straight 6 engine and an electrical system that must have been designed by an illegitimate grandson of Joseph Lucas's . When the weather was extra cold we used to put a "trouble lamp" in the engine compartment and throw a blanket over the hood as soon as we parked the car to trap the engine heat.

Only drawback was that you had to check the engine compartment before starting the car to be sure you didn't maim one of the neighborhood cats.

Sears Die Hard is an exact replacement for OEM battery sixe wise and comes with 9 mo warranty Also its an AGM Battery Just replaced mine and no problems Although I have no idea of CCA because it is not on battery or box but cranks mine just fine even at 38 degree weather which it was a few weeks ago.
