I wear an HJC FS3 open face. Even in the cold. I figure that if I could ski with my face exposed, I could sit behind the Vision's windshield that way...

Chief Waldo:

I've transitioned to the Vision but my helmet is stuck in the 70's (HJC CL-5) and needs to be retired.

I cant deal with a helmet without a visor, and I'm just not ready for another layer of plastic between me and the world (Glasses/ face-shield and wind-screen) so all these new flip down sunscreens are not for me.

So, a couple of questions if you please...

Is the visor worth a darn?
How do you like the air management on this helmet? Does all that Battle-star Galactica stuff actually vent the helmet or is it still a sauna in hot weather like the old style lids?

Thanks

They have some pretty nice helmets out there.$500.00 and up will buy a great helmet /Paint to match your bike.I use a fullface on long rides and a half helmet around here. I saw what iI liked at motorcyclesuperstore .Then I went to a shop and sised myself for it.Then went back to the online store and made my purchase. saved some money that way.I ended up with a Shoei RF-1000 In silver and black ,The Artifact design. It was $427.00. Free shipping over $75.00.I also have a Bell drifter in matte black.80 bucks

Use ear plugs (I have for many years), and get the helmet that fits you the best. If a helmet doesn't fit well, it doesn't matter how quiet it is.

This time of year, the sun is so low, the visor isn't worth much. But, throughout the summer, it's worked fine for me. The helmet comes with both a shield and a visor. I took the shield right off, installed the visor, and haven't even considered switching back.
There is an airflow switch over the forehead. To me, it makes a noticeable difference. I wore the helmet all summer and was never too hot... I've suffered while wearing a half helmet in the summer. This is way better.
I went to the 2009 New York motorcycle show looking to try on and buy an open face helmet. I was disappointed. There weren't very many helmet vendors there. But there were helmet companies demoing their products, so I checked out a bunch and decided on the FS3. I then started shopping around. My local dealer wanted $170, but when I added shipping to most on-line prices, the dealer was in the mix. I then found an ebay seller offering them with both a "buy it now" and a "best offer" price. I made an offer that totaled $120 including shipping. The seller accepted it.
When I got it, as I said, it had the face shield installed. I went to take the shield off, and noticed the clip holding it was broken. I called up the seller. They asked me to send them a picture of the broken part. When I did, they sent me out a replacement part right away. I mounted the part and the visor, and have been a happy customer.

Hey all,

I have been reading this with quite a bit of interest.

The facts are simple. Each person will like helmets for any number of reasons. Some like the looks and forget about functionality while others go with functionality over looks. I have several different types of helmets and even set myself up as an authorized CMS Helmets dealer because I like the look, functionality and overall aspect of their 3/4 helmet. You might take a look at what they offer and let me know if you would like me to order something in. The sizes run small so if you wear a large, order an XL...Small = Medium...etc.

One thing I will say is simply this; Your head is worth as much as you care to spend on it (as said by one post to the non-rider (not in those words)). I have had simple plastic shells that looked great but would probably do little in the event of a drop and other helmets that I have no doubt would protect me very well.

Keep in mind that 3/4 shells do NOT protect your face AT ALL. I don't care what any person tells you. If you wear a full-face, you will find that while it is noisy on the Vision, it offers much better protection. You will be amazed at just how much the front of a full-face takes a beating when someone hits the ground.

I uploaded a pic here so you can see the CMS helmet I own. Love it and I really like the new models of the DJET they came out with this year.

You can also check the rest of the models and makes here: http://www.cms-helmets.com/?cat=3&item=146
