So, I am not the brightest diode in the cluster when it comes to electrical. I am getting ready to do this install and as I read the instructions it seems that the module will reduce the voltage to the lights to 6 volts and go to 12 volts when the brakes or turn signal are activated. Thus achieving the visual brightness differential. Is this accurate? If so, how bright are they at 6 volts for visibility since this will be the default driving mode?

They look fine at 6 volts and really stand out as brake lights.

I can relate to the "not the brightest diode". I got this mod and installed it myself, obviously in the wrong place. I found all of the run, brake and turn signal wires under the seat and installed the tail light mod. When I finished I could only see a minor change in brightness with the turn signal or brake light applied. I figure I was supposed to have wired it in the wiring harness in the trunk shell. I've been meaning to ask the forum about it and your post prompted me to admit my ignorance.
Somebody tell me what I did wrong.
FYI the lower brake lights do flash three times with brake application.

Hi Max,

I hope this helps...

The Kuryakyn 4710 converts single filament bulbs (trunk lights) into turn signals and brake lights.

With that said you should only wire up the 4710 to the trunk lights and not the bottom V lights.

I wired mine just like the instructions and have all my brake lights flash as well as the trunk lights. Also added the extra wire and made the trunk lights into turn signals. The wires you are looking for are on the right side just before you get to the trunk connection. It is in a separate bundle than the trunk wires. Someone on here probably has some pics of where they are. Lost most of my pics when my computer fried about 4 months ago. Argh!

I'm glad you made a point on your bottom V-brake lights flashing too.  I'm going to wire mine up

I wired up the 99 LED (mod) to the red wire (#4710 output) and never gave it a second thought to wire up the bottom V-brake lights account of them being double filament bulbs.

Is it possible to wire in the 99 LED lights to come on as brake lights without purchasing the 4710 module?

Is it possible to wire in the 99 LED lights to come on as brake lights without purchasing the 4710 module?

Yes, wire it to the brake wire (white/pink) under the seat and ground the 99 LED string to the frame.

Instead of using a single light strip I used five 9" led strips to line the trunk and installed the 4710 intending to have the center unit work as tail/brake, strips on each side of it as tail/turn, and final 2 strips as tail only. Could not get the center strip to function as tail and brake. Ended up just setting it up as a tail light.

Instructions with my controller say it is to modify turn signal lights to function as tail/turn/brake, but does not mention adding an additional brake lamp. Setup works great other than not having the additional brake feature. Anyone know if I should be able to accomplish the original goal? If so, how?

I don't think you can wire the center section like a third brake light and get it to work because the way module is set up, it has each side as a separate circuit. You might be able to wire so that just one side of the module is going to both the center strips but when ever you hit the turn signal for that side it will flash the center section as well. You might be better off making the LEDs as half for one side and the other half for the other side and not worry about a center brake and tail section. Just my 2 cents. Someone else more electrically inclined might be able to chime in.

I had the 4710 mod done over a year ago with no problems.

I decided to try the additional LEDS on the trunk seam, and went with 2, 30 LED strips, and wired them into the same wires the trunk lights use.

Now I have Running, Brake, and Signals, both for the original trunk lights and with the LEDs at the trunk seam. I'm told they look awesome and are real attention getters, which, to me is a good thing, especially if it will keep some cage from running over me at an intersection!

Thanks for the input, guess that I'll build the brake light function into the original trunk lights.
