This may seem like a stupid question but here goes... I was leaving the cycle shop the other day after a great ride with the club and a mile up the road I was making a right hand turn and hit what must have been some fresh oil on the ground, that combined with 95 degree heat was a recipe for disaster!! In an instant I went into a slide then a full 180. The tip over protection did its job, so there was minimal damage to the bike and I got a bruised shoulder out of the deal. HERE'S THE QUESTION, Has anyone else experienced any traction problems like that? I have been on that road many times and I put almost 50,000 miles on my Kingpin and never experienced loss of traction like that lol Darren

I had something similar happen.  10-15 mph left hand turn in an intersection.  Both wheels slid out from under me.

Front tip over caught and spun us around 180.  Lost some skin on my knee and tore my jeans.  Tip overs protected everything else. They just got ground down a bit on the back one.

I found out it was grease trap grease that had spilled out of the truck onto the road covering the whole intersection. about 95 degrees out so it was like ice also.

Spilled Diesel fuel will cause the same effect, almost lost it going around a wrecked 18 wheeler last year. The fire department had spread something to help absorb the fuel and the police were waving motorist around the wreck. Needless to say the pucker factor went sky high. I didn't go down but made a couple of fishtails at low speed. When I got past the mess I found the nearest spot of dirt to help scrub that crap off the tires.

Keep in mind, the traction is with tire contact to the road and not to do with anything with the bike. I know you know that, but I think anyone that has been riding for a while has hit a slick patch at one time or another, I know I have. So far, fortunately I have not gone down because of it. I've hit anti-freeze, and oil at intersections where accidents have occured, sand on curves and and at intersections, snow melting chemicals, all of which that has tightened the seat muscles.

Just keep a watch anytime you ride. Glad you faired okay, despite your injury, hope you recover quickly.

The slickest thing I've ever slide trough on a bike is cattle piss from a livestock trailer. Thank God I didn't go down in that mess.

We do ride one of the heaviest bikes out there. The weight puts more side force on the tires. I hit slick pavement coming out of a truckstop. Diesel on asphalt is the slickest thing for me so far. I have not gone all the way down yet, but with every slip, I become more aware of the road conditions.
