My wife was riding her 2008 Vision near Nashua, NH today and a couch fell from a pick-up truck, the minivan in front of her not only blocked her vision but also slammed on their brakes. Grace grabbed the brakes, locked 'em up and slammed into the rear of the van doing 50. She feared being run over by the traffic behind her but despite the severe impact she stood up, did a bow and limped to the side of the road. She had slid on the tip overs, got a bit of road rash on her knees and forearm, a banged up shoulder but didn't need to be transported.

Her Victory jacket was shredded, her helmet was severely scrapped but I am totally convinced, as is she, that the Victory Vision saved her life and the tip-overs were the heros (I could see the scrapping on them).

The Vision is totaled with severe front end damage and a bent frame but hey, my wife is just shaken up a bit. She was complaining about how unlucky she was - I corrected her immediately, she had an angel on her shoulder and a Victory Vision protecting her, too.

Gotta love the Vision!

Glad to see technology and design prove its worth. Im curious, did the driver of the vehicle who did not have the couch properly secured,
get ticketed or anything???? Im so sick of people on their cellphones, texting, not paying attention causing motorcycle riders extreme harm and simply walk away with a "gee, sorry" attitude.

The couch lady got a ticket and was sobbing on the side of the road, the guy in the van was talking to the police when I drove my wife away - he was also a distracted driver, on the cell phone. These fuckers are gonna be buying my wife a sweet new ride!

Wow. That could have been much much worse. If you are on Facebook please post this to the Victory Motorcycles page so the company will know how you feel about the tipovers.

Glad your wife is OK but for the record, rear enders typically happen because someone was following too close.

While that is true that most rear-end collisions are caused by following too close, that was not the case here.  Leaving 5 car lengths probably had as much to do with her survival as the Vision Tip Overs...

A couch in the road and a distracted driver is not your typical rear-ender -- and it was the other drivers that got the tickets.

Good to hear your wife walked away from the accident.

Thanks for letting us all know how well the tip overs held up, would be interesting to see some pics.

Hippo, really glad your wife is ok from the accident. Also, thanks for posting about this incident. It looks like her riding gear also protected her from more injury.

How would one judge a 5 car distance behind a couch? Some people need to think before they type. Or maybe the couch backed into her? Here's your sign....

Glad your wife is fine.

Again, glad to know and hear the wife is okay. To chime in on the following too close, if I understand the scenario, your wife was behind the van that slammed on the brakes because of the couch. The information would indicate the couch had nothing to do with your wife hitting the van that stopped quickly as safe distance riding would have avoided that for her. With that said, most of us get into situation where we have forgotten the two second rule and therefore could fall prey to the same thing.

There are many case scenarios that would substantiate that, and something as simple as an object in the road at night my wife hit with her car and caused damage. She never saw it and the insurance would not pay for damages because it was sitting in the road already and she could have avoided it.

Further more, on this subject, not that I'm a laywer or slept in a Holiday Inn express, IF you are ever in an accident on a motorcycle, NEVER admit fault until you talk with a laywer. This is critical, as if you inadvertantly admit fault, that can go on the police report, and you will be liable out of pocket for any damages and likely loose your coverage on your bike. This topic has come up in the past and it is a good reminder. Your wife did the right things and got out without having any fault against her.

Just my take on it.

What a story! As the others have already stated, I am very glad to hear that your wife is ok. I am forwarding this thread on to my colleagues here at Victory to make sure they know how the tipover protection worked for her.

Ride safe, and I hope her recovery is speedy.

Just an fyi....so you aren't suprised...

The insurance company is not required to pay for a new bike. They are only required to pay the retail value of your bike prior to the accident. Plus applicable tax/title/license fees.

?

Unless you have "total loss replacement" on your insurance...
It's only an additional $75.00 a year for my XC.
