Friend of mine hit a deer this summer - Injuries - he says this a few weeks later: "just getting back in the saddle, my bike will be repaired hopefully by mid August????.can you believe I have been riding motorcycles for 39 fucking years?? where does the time go, I had hit a deer head on a couple of weeks ago on hwy 40 near Canmore, just got out of the hospital, broken ribs, a hole in the lung and severely beaten up???..I can at least shower myself and wipe my own ass now, yahoo!"

I kind of kidded him about 'the poor thing'...
He said: "What do ya mean pickin on those poor little deer, I swear the fucking thing was on a mission to kill me when he was running at all his might straight into the front end of the bike, what a head on hit that was????you know thoughs bastards are as dumb as a post, I can still see his eyes just before I ripped his head off with the top of the fairing, guts and fur all over the fucking place!"

The bike: Finally written-off - $25,000 Harley....

Been there, done that, in 1995 on my Kawasaki Voyager XII. Eight point buck, square in the ribcage at 60 mph. Killed the deer, totaled the bike and I walked away with some road rash, a couple broken ribs and a bruised kidney. I owe my life to the toughness of that bike.

I thimk we should kill and eat them.....I have seen statistics showing a larger population of deer now than at the turn of the last century(1900's).

I have a friend of mine who was hit by a male antelope up in the Rocky Mountains outside of Denver. He was riding along about 25 mph when the thing lowered its head and charged the motorcycle. the antelope was in rut and they supposedly get very aggressive this time of year. My friend was struck in the rib cage. His rib bone punctured a lung and grazed his heart.he almost bled to death by the time he arrived at the hospital. He was very lucky to live through that encounter.

Back on 7/7/07 and after a 200+ mile with with two others we came to a fork in the road which is where we split up... one mile later a deer comes out of someone's front yard and runs in my path. Couldn't avoid so I stomped on both brakes and stayed in my lane hoping it would get by. No chance...smack dab in the front I remember seeing his/her head right in the windsheild. I was riding an 03 Screamin Eagle Road King. I was running around 40 mph. I hit the pavement once and was lucky enough to fly over the berm and started rolling in grass. I ended up with road rash on both arms (sleeveless shirt on a 90+ degree day...still no excuse). I came away with some real good knowledge...never carry your keys in front pockets. My jeans had a large hole just below my right pocket. The keys did this and if any of the keys would have hit the major artery in the groin I would have bleed out in minutes. I now ALWAYS carry my keys in my saddlebag! Minor damage to bike all cosmetic, ie: fender, crash bars and saddlebags (the deer kicked the left saddlebag and the gas tank). Otherwise all was fine. I was very lucky.

We had a deer run into the side of our 08 Vision last week up near Lake Superior.
We were very lucky - we kept the bike up and were able to continue another 1,300+ miles.
The bike is in the shop now awaiting an insurance estimate & repair... We hate deer...
