Bought my Vision 8Ball on the 8. On the 23 I went into a conv. store. I parked on the right side of the handicaped parking spots which are located at the front door. This is a QT for those familier with the chain. This store has the space between the pumps and the parking spots that is equal to about 2.5 to 3 lanes. An older man attempted to pull into the space on the left of my bike. He grazed the sidebox door, the rear floorboard mount, and hit the outside edge of the fairing scratching it there, underneath, and scraping the inner fairing panel. Of course the bike ended up on its right side doing damage to the tipovers, front floorboard, and the passnger fb mount. I was mostly calm about the deal until the third time he questioned my claim about thedamage he did to the sidebox. He also had the nerve to tell me that I was being too picky. None of the damage is severe,it's just all over. Maybe I am being picky, But I visited the dealer often sitting and drooling on this very bike for 8 months before I was able to get it. It didn't come easy or cheaply and I will have to keep it for avery long time. Ok I'm done ranting.

sorry to hear that Wayne. In Va if the damage is in excess of $1,000 a police report is warranted. That way it goes on the old guys record and you get a solid insurance claim. Just from the sounds of it, you're not being picky or ranting at all.

Not too picky. Have his insurance fix it. He obviously doesn't take pride in what he owns. Doesn't mean you shouldn't.

I wouldn't listen to what the guy had to say. He can't see anyway. Afterall he did misjudge parking his car and hit your bike. Maybe he does that all the time, so it's no big deal to him. A $20K bike should have a picky owner. Have it checked out. Good luck.

I agree, You had a great looking bike when it came out of the dealers show room, you shouldn?t have to settle for anything less. You bought what you wanted when you had the means to do so and it should remain in that condition

One thing I've noticed about people is that they tend to believe what they want to believe. In your situation, it is advantageous for him to rationalize stiffing you on the repair since he doesn't want to pay for it. Therefore, you are being to picky in his eyes. Stick to your guns. Know what you know, which is that you shouldn't have to pay for his mistake or carelessness. You sacrificed to have something nice and he shouldn't take any joy of ownership away from you by defacing your property. Unless of course your property is not really yours, and you believe in a collective wealth system in which nobody really owns personal property. He should be a man and take care of it.

Even if, somehow, you were illegally parked, he is still liable for the damage he did to your bike. Sorry this happened to your new baby.

Thanks for the replies. I did call the police. They came out and made a report. Not only was I in a legal parking spot but mostly centered in the spot. He is insured. baadawg---I absolutely do not believe in the collective wealth system and it will be taken care of to my satisfaction.
This situation is the reason that I and alot of bikers that I know park illegally when the opportunity presents itself.

Get everything fixed correctly. Like the lady that hit my bike, My friends say the estimate is high. Is your friend a Victory mech? Well no but... I told her it would have been way cheaper if she hadn't hit me in the first place, duh!!!

Sorry to hear that. Make sure you get what is rightfully coming to you. Seek legal advice if your insurance company won't help you.
It freaks me out when people drive too closely to my parked motorcycle in gas stations & parking lots.
And just because a motorcycle takes up less than a full parking spot, some dim wits parking next to us think it's ok to get really clos to us. WTF?????

I understand your pain...... sucks that some people have no appreciation for your beautiful toy.. I had my bike fall over at a bike show. They were hesitant to come tell me..... but i just went outside and picked it up. My bike was in gear so i doubt it just fell over... later i found out these sport bike guys were messing around with my bike. more than likely they pulled it out of gear. Not as shocking a story as yours..;.. but it still hurts the same.
Make sure he did not bend the brackets that hold on the floor board.. sounds like he hit it pretty good. Hope things work out.

Get it fixed, make his insurance pay, and move on. The ride is what is important.

My only advice would be don't talk to the old man or his insurance Co.....talk only to your insurance company or your lawyers.

phoenix9 Ihavent talked to my ins. co. as I don't want to pay the deductible. The old man offered to pay out of his pocket instead of turning it in to his ins. co. I not concerned how it's paid as long as it is fixed to my satisfaction. If I start getting the run-around the phone book is full of lawers to take of ti for me, but I'm fairly confident that it won't come to that. I did take pictures of the damage to both vehicles as well as his tag on his truck. that should be enough with the police report to get it fixed right. It just kinda sucks that it is brand new and already been hit. Maybe if he had been watching were he as going instead of looking at the bike he wouldn't have hit it.

That's quicker than mine concerning the damage, good luck, I've tried the let the driver pay for it a couple of times and have been very unsuccessful at the arrangement, for some unknown reason, you can't get a hold of them or its too much or I don't know who you are, etc. What a pain, I always wonder what happened along the way, where folks are unable to do the right thing, but that's another whole soap box. So, I'll just end with, there should be plenty of available parts to put it back together and fairly quick, depending on the dealership you take it too. Good luck and hope you get it back together before the white stuff starts falling.

I'll get on that soapbox a bit, Pollo. "We ALL fall short....." We live in a fallen world; you can count on it. The best we can do is strive to be Christlike, and we will fall short. Some people don't even try. Please pardon the ricochet from the thread of this post.

Whitelaw-

You really should at least contact your insurance company and notify them of what you have going on. You don't need to to actually turn a claim in at this time. But you can give them a "heads-up" so that if in a few weeks things do possibly go bad with this situation you will be able to call them back and say "remember when I talked to you a few weeks ago?.....well I need to turn a claim in for it". Insurance companies tend to sometimes get kinda bitchy if you call them two or three weeks after the incident and its the very first time they have heard about it. Some companies want all of the information available and some don't want much (if any) but trust me....they all want at least a notification type phone call.
