Hoping to take a 4 day weekend in midOctober and ride north into NH/ME. Hoping to see alittle foliage and scenic roads. Anyone have suggestions on destinations? I've ridden around Conway,NH a bunch so trying to find some other suggestions.

Jeff,

Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, ME....

I think foliage will be gone by then however with the current state of weather.

Kancamagus Highway, Crawford Notch, Mt Washington if still open. Rt 16 from Errol NH over to Rangeley, ME over to Rt 4 then follow Rt 2 back.
What weekend you looking at? Hopefully not around Lobsterfest.

Bar Harbor and Acadia National park. But a must do if your up that way is Cadillac summit rd / Mountain top. Another good trip is the Gray ghost inn run by Magnus and Carina Thorsson. http://www.grayghostinn.com/ its in Vermont and it's very very bike friendly. They will help map out roads and rides for you. We go with the Scranton PA. hog's almost every year.

And hay! We should go riding some time! people would be seeing double vision! lol

That will probably be where I go but the open road will decide. Can anyone recommend affordable lodging in the white mountains area or Bar Harbor (if I make it that far north)?

Rick - Unfortunately, yes, its the same weekend as Lobsterfest. I wanted to go to it but can't get enough vacation days off. I can only take 2 days off and that's not enough for a trip to NC and back. Not interested in ride it all in one chunk. Lodging there looks to be another issue.

If you make it to the Bar Harbor area, there are plenty of motels that are located a few miles outside of the harbor. Right now it is off season rates from around $40 to $60.

I go to NH each summer for the NASCAR race. There are so many scenic rides around the Loudon area. Open roads, biker friendly and the natural beauty. I love riding around Lake Winnipesaukee area except for the tourist trap eating establishments. The National Forest is awesome and the views will leave you speechless. I love getting on the back roads and seeing all the streams and run offs. I would love the chance to see the area for the fall colors but never have vacation time left after all the summer trips. Do not forget abut NH RT 1A through Rye beach and if you like picnic lunches grab your food and check out Rye Harbor State Park. 2 summers ago I made it a point to make it to the Vermont lake region. Another area with alot of really nice scenic views. I'm hoping to see some fall colors this Sunday up on Route 6 through Allegheny National Forest in northern PA. Just enjoy your ride wherever it may take you.

We rode up to NH last month and enjoyed Rt. 9 from Bennington through the Green Mountain National Forest and to Brattleboro... nice road, especially in the mountains. We were staying in Wolfeboro, NH and took several daytrips around lake Winnipesaukee. We just wandered, took any road that looked promising and enjoyed a great trip. This time of year is major leaf peeper season... Have fun!

Hi Jeff,
I'm from NH but live in Florida now. Continue through Conway up RT 16 follow the river up till you come to the end then take a left head for Dixville Notch. Great place to stay,(The Balsams) then continue west another place to stay west of there, not classy but great people Colebrook CC(tell them Jay Jones sent you) till you hit RT3 take a right and head to the Canadian Border, you will pass the water shed for the Connecticut River ( The Connecticut Lakes). Turn around at the border if you want head south on Rt 3 and just south of Columbia NH take a right and head for Island Pond VT great bike riding watch out for MOOSE.
Enjoy your trip.

Jay
