Just wondering if anyone has used Metzler ME880's? If so, how were they? I was thinking about a set for my wife's aero.

Thanks

If you're talking the ME880 radial, I've been using them on my '05 8-Ball, good traction, smooth ride, longer lasting than the stock Dunlop or Avon venom I've used in the past...... She should get some really good mileage out of these tires.

Really liked them on my Magnas there were all round better than Dunlop. On my Electra Glide they were not much better than Dunlop and cost more too.

I would like to knw how they would work on the Vision. The Vision is a heavy bike. Would they last longer than the Dunlap? I get about 16,000 on the Dunlaps.

I was unable to get Dunlops in Medford last summer when road hazards cut up my rears, so I had a Metzler Marathon spooned on. 2,000 miles or so later, it works just fine, I can bend into a corner as well as ever, no squirm or tramlining, looks like it'll go the distance. I have gone darkside if I'd known about it back then. BTW-if one goes dark, do you go that way with the front tire too, or stick with the bike tire?

The rear 880 does not have sufficient load rating for the Vision.

I've got ME880's on my 96 Honda ACE 1100 and LOVE them, fantastic ride and great in the corners. I'm not aware if they are usable on a Vision though, as I haven't had to replace tires yet (just got mine last Saturday ;-)

I ran ME880s on my K1200LT, same weight as Vision and loved them.  Once my Dunlops need replacing on my Vision, I hope to run them, as long as I can get a set in the Vision size.

Are you 100% sure on the load rating?  I just went from a BMW K1200LT to the Vison, both have the same load rate and the ME880 is a rated tire for the BMW.

I haven't used them on my Vision yet, but lots of Goldwingers do and many of them like them. The Goldwing and the Vision use the same tires and weigh about the same, with the GW being maybe 20 pounds heavier than a Vision with the trunk installed. Dunlop, Bridgestone, Metzler, and Avon are popular with the GW crowd.

The BMW rear ME880 is a special reinforced tire (I used to have a K12LT also). The size is 160/70/17. This is specially made for the LT. (There is a Harley version of this tire size with a lower load rating)
This is the link for the LT tire (see REINF in the name):
http://www.metzelermoto.com/web/fitment/metzeler/selectSearchTyresF...

There is a 880 available in 180/60/16 from Metzleler but it has a load rating of 74 which is far from the required load rating for the VV (80) which is why you get this when you look for fitment on the Metzeler site:

http://www.metzelermoto.com/web/fitment/metzeler/selectSearchTyresF...

For me, personally, the difference between 74 and 80 would be too much to feel cozy about. But if you never travel 2-up with luggage you may be OK.

With that said, nor would I feel warm n fuzzy about running an underrated tire on the beast.  I run a full load at times, bags, trunk, trunk bag, and a Bushtec out back, also loaded.  I have put 3000k in the last 3 months on the Vision and the Dunlops seem to work fine.
