I was at Volusia Motorsports yesterday talking w/Pete there. I was commenting how hard the Ness' VV seat was compared to my VVTP. He rides a VV also and said that he got tired of the soft foam in the stock heated seat and put the Ness seat on his bike. With the harder foam and larger back support (because they lowered from 4 to 2" of form) he finds the ride so much more comfy. Compared it to a soft vs firm mattress. Firm actually giving more support. Personally, I don't find the stock uncomfy. But Pete called it a showroom saddle. Feels good at first sit and then gets too you on the long run so you have to buy another.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone else switch to a Ness saddle?

I want to leather mine. But as far as being uncomfortable, maybe I too stupid to notice after sitting in the saddle for 12 to 19 hour days. I find I can ride my bike longer without stopping then I do in a car. I don't believe that is a "showroom" saddle, he just wants you to drop a dime on another seat, cha-ching.

The stock seat is the best I've ridden, EVER and thats a lot of miles on a bunch of different bikes in the past 40 years. I did buy the Ness saddle to see how I liked it and yes it is stiff, but NO it is not more comfy than the stock seat on a long haul, at least not for me. I guess different butts fit different seats differently. I liked the Ness for shorter 150-300 mile days, but it didn't come close to the stocker for those 6-700 mile days.
Now SOME folks will tell you that leather seats breath more than the vinyl stock seat.... NOT true. If you sweat on the stock seat wrapping it in leather won't help that one bit, so paying EXTRA for leather is a waste of money and it is less water resistant if your bike see's all types of weather.
So long and short is I believe your buddy Pete has it backwards. The Ness seat feels supportive in he showroom and will give someone the false impression but mostly because it looks cool. The stocker will feel just fine and be supportive for the long haul even if it might feel a little squirmy on the showroom floor.
Oh and the Ness seat does have a different feel as the cut allows you to sit back "into" the seat. If I was to make a single change to the stock seat it would be to sit the butt back just a tad where the tailbone makes contact so you don't get that slouching feel, but thats nothing you can't fix by simply sitting up, lol...

The stock seat on my Vision is the most comfortable I've ever had, by far, in 45 years of riding. 600-700 mile days are no problem. I've not tried the Ness seat.

This is a good thread, Dr Decay, since I was wondering the same thing. Granted, I'm a newby (to street bikes...raced MX way back when), but after 200 miles, my tailbone is killing me. And my wife is ready for 200 more miles on her Vegas 8 ball. Then I tried that slip-in back rest, and after a 270 mile trip, I felt much better. But I am still curious about the stock seat, too. Thanks for your input guys!

On the 08 and 09 VV there was a small bump or lip towards the back of the seat - right before the back of the drivers seat... That bothered my tail bone. I learned to live with it... At the end of a long day I hurt when I got off. Then I went to the Victory Leather seat. Yes it is much firmer... No bump and I was no longer hurting from the soft foam...

Now I am running a 2010 Ness seat - it sits 1" lower. Has great back support and no lip. So far I am liking it the best - and it is was less the $300.

The 2010 and 2011 VV stock seats are different - they do not have the lip and I noticed that I sit farther back on the bike.

Is the Victory leather seat for the Vision all real leather? Also, is it the same shape in the saddle as the stock? I like the 8-Ball seat that is lower and pushes the rider forward some, or so I hear, but is there a leather version? I think I've got some homework to do.

Anny came with a "10th anniversary" seat. Is it any different than the others except for looks? I can ride day after day on it and the only problem I ran into was my left leg would ache after 750 miles in a day. I bought the highway "pegs" from Tri-City and no more pain on 1000+ day. Sometimes it's not the seat.

The highway pegs do come in handy...
