just looking for info. I will be going next summer. I have heard many differing stories of how aweful the road is the last 300 miles. I have heard of 50 to 60 mile streches of lose gravel, fast moving heavy haul trucks spraying u with gravel, huge pot holes and ice cracks, and many tire failures. I am just looking for info, if i have to take 3 days to do the last 300 so be it, just need to start planning. I will be going to get the white protective adhesive for the front of the vision (the kind new cars wear when they are on transport trucks) to protect from the flying gravel.

You may want to look into the CeeBailey's headlight gaurd as well if you are worried. I hope to hit Hyder either this July or next, but never thought about putting anything on to protect the painted surfaces. I'll follow this post to see what everyone thinks.

I read an article about some people riding up that way. They shipped new tires to the end destination to change them out before heading back. May have been BMW Adventure riders. I think that is ADVrider is the site. Good luck on your trip and keep us informed. There are Victory riders in Alaska, hit all the sites and see if they can be found.

P.S. just looked at the advrider.com site. there is a section on rides, 3 on the first page were Alaska trips. Pictures on one were pretty sweet. Should be a epic ride.

I have driven it 3 times but never ridden it. Can be quite a challenge depending on the weather during any given year. Mud hole one year, dusty and rock filled the next. It is truly an adventure.

Just got a "Travel Alaska" magazine. It is about Travel planning for trips. There is a paragraph on road conditions. http://511.alaska.gov is the road conditions site. They also say the ALCAN is fully paved and thoroughly modernized.(thier words ,not mine. TravelAlaska.com. Hope this helps.

Did they say fully paved for the Alaska portion or the entire length? I know it was paved to white horse from Tok Alaska but after that it went to gravel. Just wondering.

Oregon.
There is a book you can buy called the mile post. It has a ton of information about the Alcan. I have been planning to do the trip for two years. Very envious. Good luck.
