09 and up you can install the reverse unit. PC-V will work on all years.
I have an 08 and 09 - no problems with either.

All I can tell ya is that Ive been on this site for 3 years. I own a 2008 fully loaded with about 10K in additional equipment and accessories. My bike has never had any of the issues I've read on here. Tranny is great, oil compression is great, blah blah blah. Sometimes I skake my head when I read some of the posts on the site about guys having continuous issues with their bike. Makes me wonder what THEY are doing to their bike.
Alas, this is what happens when you take something already awesome, and spend too much time changing it on your own. If you need the reverse or the ABS then go for a newer model, but thats the only reason to choose IMO.

I have been riding for what feels like a 100 years and in all that time maybe need reverse twice. Even in the field parking on the charity rides. I look and thing and plan on how I'm getting in and out. Gold wings have reverse and I wounder how many times they need it. Waist of money in my book but then your you and how many times have you need one. Just stop ask the little lady to get off and then flat footed back her in.
Keep in mind the PC-V is really a two part system. $ 396 for the PC and another $369 for the auto tune. On no auto tune and now go to a dyno for mapping and spend $300 or more with him. If your not doing cams then no need for the PC-V.
