I would not think so. Yes there is heat and a candy bar will melt but no. Yes your clothes will get warm but nothing to worrie about.
Think of this h-d has been doing it for ever and no saddle bags have caught fire.

It is definitely warmer in the bag than my V Star got. Not hot enough to damage clothes but hotter than I'm use to. I was think of putting a heat shield like this on the outside of the bottom. http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/products/fuel_tank_air_box_and_fa...

Anyone have any experience with this type of material?

Clean the bottom with alcohol & apply this.
Mine's been on for a year now & still sticking.
A bottle of water is noticeably cooler after sitting in there, compared to before.

I bet it would be a good idea to use some of it on the underside of the gas tank as well to lessen the transfer of engine heat to the fuel which lowers gas mileage.

Victory engineers used this product (or similar) on a XR saddlebag when they made it into a cooler. They applied it to the bottom of the bag as well as along the inside, then added the styrofoam. I road this bike up from Colorado and for a week during Sturgis 2010 and kept water & ice in it. Every day was above 90 and many times over 100 and it kept the water cold.

Yes, yes, and yes. Took an eight hour ride from Jax, FL to Panama City and my deodorant stick melted. You could probably cook an egg on the bottom.

So, under a two hour ride, maybe ok, after that.... keep the eggs in top section......lol.

I plan on using some of that aluminum air duct tape I have.... might be the same as mentioned earlier in the thread.
