They had a swap meet going on and figured it would be a good place to try and sell my FLTRI. There were maybe 50 people there not the turn out I was expecting. As I was milling around a salesman started talking to me and I told him I was selling my Harley because I bought a Victory. He told me I should sell the Vic and keep the Harley because there are alot more Harley dealers than Vic dealers so its easier to get parts for a Harley. I declined but didn't have the heart to tell him that the Vic's dont break down near as often as Harleys so you dont need the parts.

Most sales people at Harley and other motorcycles dealerships are pretty uneducated about their own products, and know almost nothing about the competition.............

funny you should say that Steve. I've always noticed that the Harley guys don't even want to talk about other bikes, they figure why if they have the "best". It's all part of the persona...

When I was test riding bikes, I rode an Ultra Classic at the local Hardley dealer. When I mentioned that I had ridden a Victory Vision and liked it much more, the dealer told me the same thing about the dealer network being better. Is that really the best selling point that they have?

You want to really throw a monkee wrench in their gears, ask them why they think a 2 valve pushrod 45degree V Twin is supposed to be better than a SOHC 4 valve 50 degree V Twin ?? If that don't do it ask them how Harley has improved the cam chain tensioner system. Half the guys working the floor at a HD dealerships have never changed the oil in a motorcycle. It wasn't always like that though .................

Point - I was there today also. I rode up from columbus along with 7 other buddies. They all ride harleys and I try not to hold that against them. Got there about 1:30 and there were a good number of people there. I do like that dealership. Its one of the less snobish HD dealers Ive been to. Cant blame them for trying to sell thier own product. Parking lot was full of bikes but guess which one got the most attention. What really freaks them out is when they say "you should sell that and get a harley" and I tell them "I sold my harley to buy this"

I like to be a contrare sometimes so I ride the Vision to the Harley shop sometimes just for fun and the RoadGlide to the Victory shop to buy oil and filters for the Vision. At the HD shop they ask how do you like your Vision and I like to say; It's great but I still have a RoadGlide too. They get a puzzled look for a second, then ask how smooth is it ??

I don't think they advertised it very well. I know at my old dealer in Fla if they were doing anything it was on the radio, banners at hooters and all the other bike nights and all the local biker rags. It would take half an hour to find a place to squeeze your bike in and would be packed to capacity all day. Usually have a band or two activities for the kids and they would raise a lot of money for whatever charity of the day was. So to me the event was a let down.

Yep seems to be a hotbed for Victories, I saw 2 Visions riding down 29 Sunday afternoon. I was in my truck heading to a Lowes to pick up next weeks project. If it was anyone here speak up.

My RoadGlide was getting the cruise control cables adjusted at Great South last summer and after the third day of being in the shop I rode the Vision into the Maintenance reception bay, at first they didn't recognize me and with a puzzled look asked " Ah, can we help you ?" After I identified myself and was talking to the shop manager almost all the mechanics came out and was checking out the Vision............They were all interested in the specs of the engine. You know: bore and stroke, induction, cam actuation and power levels ect.....The motor heads were all impressed with the ease of getting to the 110-115 HP level.

I have not desire to trade my Hammer on a HD. However, I wish that the Victory dealership network was half as extensive as HD's. I took a drive from Indiana to Washington state a couple years ago and I was amazed how many HD dealers were right off the interstate.
