Playing around with ideas for a custom taillight, drew this up on my computer.
What do you think?

Want to do it in black tint but was told it had to be opaque.?

Did not like how dark a full tinted lens made the bike. Want to keep it bright for the cages to see.

Its nice that your think outside the box BUT. You really want to cut down on your lights when some drunk or towel head will not see you and slam into you.
I am always scared sitting at a light weather day on night and some body in a jacked up four wheeler or a little some one that can't see the end of the front of the hit me.
Nice idea "NO"

Nozzledog, you'll have a cottage industry with this, and apply that to the front lights as well and it'll draw the takers. As far as the lines, the lower louvers, or whatever they are detract from the bike but they are the rave. Though the light panel is illuminating less area, it is still emmitting more light than other stock bikes out there. It looks like it fits in with the tribal paint scheme.

Keep in mind, I don't think folks rear-end simply because you are on a motorcycle, there are plenty of rearend hits on semi's, cagers and vans. I had a woman pull out in front of me when I was driving a cage, headlights burning and the vehicle was red with chrome. She said she didn't see me until she actually hit me in the right rear quarter panel as I was trying to make my way past her. I would have hate to think what would have happened if I was riding a motorcycle at the time. That was the only accident to date I've ever been involved in.

I'm doing Songfans 99 led trunk lite install - I have all the pieces - just waiting for warmer weather to be sure adhesive works (no heated garage!).

No trunk.

The painted area is about 10% of lens surface and most of that is in the area between the lights.
I thought if I could do it in tint instead of opaque, it would diminish the light output even less. I'm running full tinted front lenses right now and there is NO WAY I would do it to the back. It cuts out so much light it's unsafe. Not to mention it eliminates all reflected light out of the tail. Like most of you, I ditched the reflector attached to the liscense plate frame, so the only reflectors I have to meet DOT requirements is the one's in the lenses.
I don't think the light output difference would be noticable with this mod, but I have heard others comment that it makes the back look 'to busy'. Combined with the tribal art on the side, I just don't know.

Nozzle, I like it! Ness did a custom Vision with the front wing lights colored out to just 3 small ovals. It was painted out the same color as the bike. Looked hot. Again, I like it. You could give it a temp try with just some black painted shelf paper or similar material placed on the rear lens. Then if ya don't like it, take it off!!
