Columbia, SC | I'm considering a utopia backrest as it's supposed to be pretty good and will be able to push me forward a little bit. But I have an '09 which does not have the slot standard in the seat. And the instructions say to take a knife and go to town on it. But I'd like to know some longterm results on how that cut lasts. Does it continue to rip with a passenger's weight going on and off the seat? Does rain get in there and make it smell god awful after a while or something? I would like some reports from some allweather riders, with a pillion if possible. Thank you!

Iowa | There is a video on theVog that walks you through the process. Everytime I watch it, I get a little wobblie when he puts the knife through the seat. I know a couple of guys who did it and both like the backrest. |

Actually the video on theVOG is a link to the Youtube.com video. I know I added it to theVOG site.
I will embed my video to this post. It is funny that the after buying the backrest, making the video, playing the guitar and putting it all on Youtube, Utopia thanks Andy for the Video and not me.....oh well I forgive them because I love my backrest.
Don't you just the sound of that serrated Cutco knife pop pop popping through the vinyl seat cover as it is cut.
The popping starts about 1:55 into the video....enjoy!

Baltimore, Md | I ride solo, but have had the Utopia for over 16,000 miles. I have had luggage and other things tied down on the back seat and pushing against the Utopia, though not a person very often. Mine looks just fine after all that and shows no signs of tearing or fraying. I adjust it a lot, especially on long trips and depending on what is behind it. I just returned from a 1500 mile trip in the worst weather and stuff jammed up against it in the rain. No issues. Hope this helps. |

Tucson, AZ | Ive had mine on for 2.5 years, 67k on the clock, no problems what so ever. Ive ridden with a passenger and when solo my pack bungeed on the rear seat the whole time. Best investment next to the cams.

San Antonio, TX | The hole where I cut the seat has not torn at all. The backrest still works great.
The seat itself has torn a seam loose about 3 inches in length on the left side of the seat. The seam is bursting open but it has nothing to do with the backrest. I am working with the dealer to see what they can do about the seat.

Central New York | Year and a half, 12k, no problem. Frankly, I wouldn't care if there were. I would rather have to recover the seat every couple years than have to do without my backrest. It's that much added comfort.

Woodland Hills, CA | 2 1/2 years and 20k miles on my 2008 and it still looks and performs like when it was new. There are no sighs of deterioration where it attaches through the seat, and I wouldn't ride without it! |

Salt Lake City | One yr. and 10K miles on mile; lovin' it! There is plenty of room for my wife, and when she's not riding with me, I adjust it back a little. I was a little hesitant to cut a hole and do the install, but it basically was a breeze. A must have, IMO! |

Hello...
I have a stock heated seat that I have added a Utopia backrest to. I also added the quick release kit making it a 15 second job to remove or add the backrest. I've had two other Utopia backrests on previous bikes and have liked them all...a very good product. I did buy the Victory leather seat to make the Mrs. happy and so -
I have a Stock, Heated, Utopia equiped seat for sale.
