Subject: Clutch "problem"

It happened on the way home after running about 6 miles down the interstate. Came to a stop & I could feel the bike pulling against the brake with it in gear & the clutch disengaged, just slightly. Never experienced this before. I'm sitting at 2700 miles on my last oil change, could this be causing it? Let's hear your suggestions.

tj, it may look clear and full, but you may need to flush and fill. It won't hurt and it will rule out any issues there before they could get worse. Also, yes, ever so slightly you may feel that tug with older oil, depending on the brand. Do yourself a favor and change the oil too and let us know how it all turns out.

So, my clutch engages right off the grip, its a short throw. When fully extended or let out, I can move the lever another inch or more away from the grip, its just loose. By changing the fluid would the throw get longer and take up the slack in the lever?

It may make the throw a little better but it will not take out the slack. I have a habit of when shifting to push the lever out when I'm in my ride gear.

So you didn't say what oil you use. I have read where guys have gone away from Vic oil and ran into problems. They went back to Vic oil and clutch works like new.
Do you drag the clutch when you leave a stop light. Do you do burn outs. All of this can cause a problem.
Your clutch pivot arm need oiling now and then same with your lever. Check your manual and it will show you wear and how to.

This doesn't sound like an oil issue, more likely air in the clutch fluid line, bad master or slave cylinder...... I'd even check the bracket the clutch slave is attached to and make sure it hasn't loosened up. My clutch barely disengages so a loose bracket could potentially cause the problem you are having.
