Im considering adding the Vision Piaa aux lights to my front forks. I have to admit i like the look of them better than other aux lights ive seen, but I've heard that they dont put out much light.

Anyone had any experience with them?

Also considering the GPS unit. I like the placement of the Tourtech on the center console, but
suspect that since Victory puts their name on it, the unit is available to the public on its own.
Curious if anyone else has priced the unit without the Victory badge. How much more are we actually paying to have all the Victory dealerships listed on the maps.......

what says you guys

The PIAA lights was the first thing I added to my Vision. It is not that you need more light at night, it is the extra demension these lights give the front of the bike during daylight hours. I'm not sure what you think you need in extra lighting. You know they can't be brighter than your high beam.
As for the GPS, I just installed a Garmin 2820, bought it for $240 and mounted on the Victory mount for $76. Took me about an hour to install.....it talks through the speakers.....cool. Oh and thanks to Lloyds, I installed an intake plate while the counsol was off. More HP......

I agree. I put the PIAA lights on to add more things to draw the eyes of the cagers. They give a little more light at night but I bought them for the safety factor. And they look cool when they're on.

The GPS mount kit ??? Is it the particular GPS that talks through the speakers or is it the mount kit from victory that would allow any gps unit to talk through the speakers. I am looking for a new unit and found a Garmin NUVI 260W. Will this unit work with the kit from victory??? or how can I find out????

The easy answer is that the Vision is pre-wired for use with the Garmin 2720 and 2820 provided you use Victory's mounting kit. The mounting kit comes with the base mount and applicable cord that connects with the GPS allowing it to work through the speakers. You can use a different GPS (search forum) or go with one of the Garmins, the 2820 is bluetooth capable, the 2720 is not. I bought a refurbished 2720 off Ebay for $70 with all accessories, plus the mount at $75 which is ALOT cheaper than buying the Victory name.

I have the lights and I drive with them on all the time. I also have the garmin and love it as well. I don't even want to think about going on a long trip on something else. I can't believe I spent so much time on a Harley, and other crusiers. I still might get a bar hopper again but not in the near future. Hmm, a Hammer would be a nice addition but I don't think I would ride it much.

Not really getting them for the extra lighting mostly for the "look" and also that extra console switch with nothing to do, drives me nuts.
VisnTex, any idea what the difference is between the 2820 and the tourtech from Victory? Cant see spending several hundred extra when a couple works just as well. Is the 2820 touch screen? How is the screen visibility during daylight. Im assuming its color.
Spill it bucko !!

The PIAA lights are nice, but they don't put out much light compared to the HID light on the Vision. PIAA does make a new bulb to fit these lights that is about 3 times the wattage, therefore they should be brighter.

The Victory mount works with the 2820, it consists of the mount, plus the Garmin locking device that attaches to the mount and the 7 pin wire harness that attaches to the plug on the main wiring harness, up to the 2820. It will require you to remove the center console, which is pretty easy. Mark the wires as you remove them, that way you know where they go when you install. Took about an hour. You will need a good metric hex head wrench set, a drill with a good 1/4" bit, some tape tags, couple of towels to lay on the painted parts of the bike so you don't scratch any thing.
The 7 pin wire off the main wire harness maybe a little hard to find, it is down by the right hand gas tank and has a little cap on it. The 2820 is made for motorcycles so you can see it on the road. It also comes with a little cover, and the Garmin locking device that attaches to the mount is theft resistant not proof. I'm sure someone could rip it off if they really wanted it, but it does lock on. Good luck with your install.

I'll also add, these lights are to make you seen, not to see.

Wonder if a machine shop could fab brackets so we could mount any style lights? The wiring, relay and switch and such would be very easy to deal with. I've looked over a set of the PIAA lamps at the Vic dealer, I think the bracket would be a fairly easy fab and should be pretty cheap. We could paint the bracket any color we wished, don't need fancy chrome. And I'm pretty positive that after everything is said and done the price would whoop the crap out of the $300+ that Vic wants. Heck, we could go with a HID setup and still be cheaper than the PIAA units.

I've had the PIAA lights on both visions I've owned. The '09, as I understand it, has a different relay switch of some sort in them that doesn't she them off when you turn on your high beams (as in the '08 model). Works for me anyway. I have them on all the time. Primarily for better visibility during the day (drivers turning left in front of me especially). At night, there is a difference, but not significant. You still have the extra lights showing, and to me that helps in an of itself. There is a little hole on the fork for the wiring to go through, so it's a real clean look when installed properly.

I can tell you from experience that I took a ride out to Greenport, L.I. with my friend and wives, he rides a Kawa. Vulcan, on the weekend before Labor Day. He had at least 4 vehicles pull out in front of him or stop 3/4 the way out in the lane. All the strap hangers, yuppie Mahattanites that don't drive, but on Holidays and summer weekends. On the ride back I lead and not one auto pulled out and most people I notice waited and look as I passed by. The extra lights up front make you more noticable. I've also notice that the local County Mounties also have the twin lights mounted on the front forks. But I'll take any extra little edge I can get...I'm having Vision withdrawal my ride in the shop til the 21st.

My 10th Anny came with the 2820. It's a nice unit but I have one problem with it? When I miss a turn it says, "Hey stupid, you were supposed to turn back there. " How did they personalize it?

david.terry, you may be surprised at how much time you spend on the other bike. I have 4 Victorys, the Vision is mainly my road bike. The other 3 are rode when I'm riding around town. ET

Bought a set of PIAA 1000 Fork lights on clearence. Anybody have a fender mount bracket ? I noticed that there are brass chromed L brackets for shower doors that might do the job but if there is a part that can be purchased I'm interested.

I bought the PIAA from the dealer and installed them. Pretty easy install. I had a bulb go out and got a replacement from Dennis Kirk. I went from 35wt bulb to 55wt. A big difference on lighting the road. It was worth the money.
