8. What is the average yearly mileage for a motorcycle?
Obviously mileage will vary from year to year and model to model. A simple guide could be to consider the type of bike you are looking at: If the bike is a sportbike 600 c.c. to 999 c.c., and since these bikes are traditionally weekend only bikes, you can expect to see lower miles, about 3,000 miles per year. Tourers or Sport Tourers usually see a lot of miles, but these are generally freeway miles, between 5,000 to 6,000 miles per year.

very nice, another reason I never think of resale value, I look for usable value, I've got more than my monies worth with the Bentley.

I just did a quick snapshot on Ebay for 2008 Touring bikes for sale today.  (No 2008 Visions for sale.)

Mileage                    Ultra Classic          Goldwing          K1200lt

Less than 10K                 13                      5

10-20K                             5                      2

20-30K                             4                      3                    1

30-40K                             2                      1

40K+                                2

The KBB numbers look pretty accurate after seeing this.

bikers are hard to figure out. I would say there are plenty out there that will have an average of 30,000 miles a year or higher, but you'll never see them on ebay, much less on this forum. I am not shocked at this nada assessment, because that is where the mass is for any given model.

I know at least 3 harley owners that have their bikes "for sale" and they hardly ever ride. They are asking way to much for them, and believe they'll one day get that price for dispite 2 of them have been "for sale" for over two years now. I have another friend that was on his third harley and he buys for the resale value. He buys the nice one with all the stuff, but he doesn't use the stuff, like matching helmets and comm headsets. They stay in the box and he rides minimal miles each year then sells with things still in the box.

IF, a big IF I was going to sell my Vision, even after having it a year with 30,000 miles, I would not have used the nada, I would have used my payoff, considering I put half down up front.

The book is not for those who ride, but those who buy and sell, or the buyer looking for a well taken care of, hardly ridden bike. By the way, acronym NADA is the same spelling for the spanish word nada = nothng, hmmmm

Hard to believe I have a few more miles than SongFan. SongFan, are you having engine or transmission problems? Something broke or is the Classic Vision disassembled? Just curious as I am normally trailing you in mileage! Just a little panicky! I know you offered your bike up for a "Fix" Ride, so do I need to extend that hand also.

Well the mileage numbers are right in line with what we have discussed here for many years. The average rider is around the 2k-3k mileage. Which then your maintenance requirements are then established for those folks. Maybe the manufacturer needs to come out with the heavy mileage schedule.

Had to cancel the AVR and a 23 day/6,000 round trip to Vancouver this summer.  Right hip is falling apart on me, still trying to sort it out.  Still riding to work but no long trips.  Will make up for lost time next year!

Sorry to hear about the hip! Are you using assistance ie - walker, cane, wheelchair? Do you need stickers we can decorate or maybe even chrome. Just trying to help! Hope it gets to feeling better!
