Got home this morning and decided to take my bike on a short ride.
Hopped on bike and hit the key and my dash is now blank. Radio, CB, and other stuff works, control and presents work, but no readout … just some black spots. The back light works ok.

Called the dealer and they have no idea (which is what I expected).

I am waiting on my ignition parts for the recall, which are on backorder. (they weren't even aware of the recall until I asked them about it a week ago)

Maybe the ignition recall problem is causing it?

Anyway, we are on hold until the parts show up before they tear into and see why the readout is blank.
Bike runs great; radio works fine, just have to be careful not to hit any settings buttons.

Oh yeah another piece of chrome has showed up… just one more to go … for now.

These little bugs and backorder problems are starting to get damn aggravating. Plus, having to take the bike to the dealer (50 miles) and put it line for a week (they don't do appointments) does pee me off.
Great deal on bike, but poor service after the sale!

Not taking appointments has really turned me off. For now on, anything other then warranty work is going to been done at a closer independent bike shop (my time doesn't seem to be of any importance to my Evansville, Indiana Victory dealer.)

Hey Tim. Sorry to hear about the blackout. But you mentioned the ignition parts are on recall. I don't think your dealer is giving you the straight scoop as I am to understand that the parts are readily available. If I may suggest, call your dealer and remind him it's a DO NOT RIDE recall and to please have the parts FedEx'd next day and to pick up your bile.

As we all know, all dealers are not created equally. When you announce here that your dealer was not aware of the recall when it's been out for Two Months, something smells. You might want to call Victory direct to find out why your dealer does not have the parts. You probably won't get an answer, but at least you'll let them know.

I'm lucky as my dealer does a great job staying on top of things.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, something is amiss when I (a couple weeks after I get my letter) am the one telling them about the recall.
This thing about the parts being on backorder has me puzzled too! I am thinking they forgot to order the parts. It's not like I have the only Vision out of that dealer since I know of two others, and they have 3 of them on their sales floor.

I guess what really pezz'ed me off today was when I was told I'd have to drop the bike off and find me a ride home since they are running a little over a week out in their shop, and they don't make appointments.
Last time my bike was there so it could have it's first service and my accessories & goodies added, I had to drop it off, and then they would put me in line. No going ahead and riding it for a week. (If you leave with the bike IT'S BACK TO THE END OF THE LINE!)

At that time it was supposed to be 5 days. After 10 days I called and I was told it'll be at least another week. I started frying! I called back and talked to one of the guys who seems to be more concerned and I told him I was pissed.
Guess it helped since they called the next day and told me I could pick it up the next morning.
I want to ride the frinkin bike not park the sumbuck in line because they won't make appointments.

Is this conceited attitude the norm with Victory dealers?
Because I feel I have bought a BMW M3 but am treated as if I am driving a borrowed rusted out 1971Volkswagon. There's a high-class feeling in my dealer, and everybody is very polite and refer to people as Mr.
But, I now get the feeling I have to kiss their butts after the sale is done.

I bought a first class top of the line very best bike there is. I paid good money for it, and from what I have read I got a great deal. I have bought (paid for up front) thousands of dollars of accessories (most of it ended up on backorder) and riding apparel. But I feel like I am being had.

I deal with service issues everyday as part of my business and if I treated my customers this way I would feel like a crook.

Let me add, there is no way I would part with my Vision because of this dealer, backorder, and now every other week bug issues. Only way anybody could get my Vision would be by prying it from my cold dead hands.

Today I cruised down the curvy back roads and felt so free and relaxed I could have cried. I love the ride, handling, and the way this bike is so well designed.
Heck I don't even mind the constant interruptions by folks who have to either comment or ask questions about the bike everywhere I stop.

Guess I am going to talk too a couple other dealers who are about another 50 mile down the road and see what they are like.
Because

I just wanna ride!

Hey, the Vision is a great bike. BUT THE FASTEST WAY TO TRAVEL IS BY WORD OF MOUTH. Let your dealer know.

Savannah, GA -Year round riding!! Yay!
My stereo started doing exactly that, intermittently, when I started having electrical problems. After the ignition recall fix, it started doing that continually, while still at the dealer. So, they ordered a new stereo, after trying to flash it and all else. My stereo got to the dealer this past Wed. I took my bike in later Thursday, and picked it up today (it was ready yesterday, but I couldn't get there to get it). I rode for about 100 miles today. Everything was just fine. I was talking to the tech when I picked it up (they were quiet as most of the dealership went to Myrtle Beach for the week). He was saying that he called Polaris with several questions himself after flashing the original stereo. He said Polaris couldn't answer his questions, seemed aware of what was going on with the stereos, and sent him a replacement one, no questions asked. I'm hoping I received a new improved until, and not just a pile of donkey poo for a pile of horse poo.... I called Polaris myself, just before my dealer received the ignition parts, very perturbed as we were all in the dark. They weren't very helpful, basically told me that I wasn't their customer, my dealer was, and they didn't need to tell me anything. But I felt better, getting it off my chest my displeasure....

Sounds like a bad dealer to deal with. My first Victory was purchased from a country Polaris dealer that offered a good deal on the bike but when it came to service it was no better than you are describing. I tried a different dealer (Arlen Ness) and the difference is like night and day. Needless to say I purchased my Vision at the location that I get the great service. I am fortunate to be close enough to the Arlen Ness location in Dublin Ca. They live up to a very high standard there.

I have (so far) great dealings with my dealer.....Too bad it isn't that way with them all. The ones that took my money and then treated me like a mushroom were Mineola two-wheel corp. Especially a mr. Phil Zegarek, who wouldn't even return a simple phone call. So I am short a set of chrome grills, because they can't seem to pour sand out of a boot, even with instructions on the heel!-----Metalguy

This I found this morning.

5/16/2008 - iPod and Other Radio Issues UPDATE. Victory is currently working on a to fix most if not all of the iPod and any other Radio related quirks on the Vision. This update will be built right into the dealers Digital Wrench software, so stay tuned.

Hopefully, this will be available next week. Don 't know if this will help my present bug, but it should fix the other radio bugs that I have been having.

Oh yeah, someone asked before what my VN is
I guess I have it right? The last four numbers are 4253

sounds like your dealer is a piece of work! my dealer up here in Montana orders the parts the day of the recall! They ordered enough parts to fix the two the sold and the three on the floor!  Also my dealer also only does service by appointment, unless you are a rider passing through and immediate service os the only way to keep you going! My dealer is awesome, find one that treats you better. The only one to lose out is the jerks you are dealing with now!

My dealer, Podeins in Stewartville, MN are awesome, they got the recall parts in right away and I stopped in and before I had time to pull it in the shop, one of the techs was putting the parts in out in the parking lot. There is no reason your dealer couldn't do the same thing, it only takes about 15 min.

I have to admit this idea of no appointments and your bike must be on their property before you are placed in any kind of line is first in my experiences of repair shops and dealers of any kind of motor vehicle.

I understand the no checks, everything must be paid for before it leaves, all ordered items must be paid for up front because of how flighty some bikers are. Plus, I make it a policy to make sure anybody who does work for me gets paid and doesn't have to wait for the cash or check to show up.
I find you get better service if folks know they're going to get paid and not have to wait and wonder.

Every time I hear there's week backup, it's usually two weeks+. Other guys have told me they hear the same thing.
Two weeks without my bike just because I can't make an appointment or even keep it at home until the line shortens is eating at me.
They have had some turnover and they seem to be short of techs. I saw new faces last weekend when I stop by and spent anther 151 dollars.

I do have to say.
What they have done to my bike has been topnotch. The bike comes back cleaner then it was when you drop it off and what they work on is fixed right.
They also accidently put a scratch on my center consol that I wouldn't have seen for a while if it hadn't been brought to my attention.
They had a new one already on order and made sure I knew they were going pay for it. (It came in right away and is on the list that I am letting build up so I can lessen my down time)

Ok I guess I am starting to sound like a whiner. But, I am just frustrated.

My wife hasn't missed the fact that with the cost of the bike, a long list of added accessories, labor to install some of these accessories, then there's all the little things we need for bikes such as tire repair kits, and clothing, riding jackets, helmets, rain suits (all x 2) it's starting to hit the upper 20's in dollars spent.

I guess I expected to be treated better then some kind of slough after the sale.

The beginning of the end problems … maybe .. oh heck I know it'll get fixed.

Got home from 5 days of trucking and loaded up the wife for a short ride.
Rode down to gas station and gassed her (the bike) up.
Loaded back up and notices thing that should be off are now on.
Crap!
Fire up bike, intercom come on and it goes off, radio comes on and it goes off … all only play in the right speakers.
Driving me crazy so I TRY to shut the radio off.
No good.
It just stays on.

Then I notice speed-o-meter, tachometer, odometer; heck just about everything doesn't work. Darn bike is a little odd to ride when you have no tach, speed-o-meter, and a readout telling you what gear you're in.
Yes, I am a sissy.

Oh well back home I go.

Since things stay on and they go off and turn back on, I unhook battery.
YES!
Everything resets and I didn't lose any radio presents and I am back on the road!

Of course LED digital readout still doesn't work.

My dealer.
They called the other day and are supposedly going to work on bike next week even though their shop is running two weeks behind. Talked like if I bring it in Monday they'll work it in right away.

I called late this afternoon to remind them and make sure we are on.
No luck on the return call from the guy I know will do what he promises. But, I am going to be there Monday anyway.
Can't talk to anybody since they are selling bikes like hotcakes on a cold winter day. Sure hope they add more help to the shop since they're selling so many bikes.

Chrome
Well, last piece showed up the other day. Ordered a bunch the end of January. Pieces seem to come in about every 3 weeks.
Add the last 2 pieces next week and the bike will be all sexy.

New bike, new style, bike that's ahead of the rest, and there just has to be problems. It's just a mechanical law of nature.

Going riding this weekend, vacation ride in two weeks with the wife in tow. Can't wait!

Sure wish people would stop asking me so many questions about the bike when I make stops. (No I don't!)
Had a guy the other day ask if I was the one that built the bike since he aren't never seen anything like it.

Riding is almost better then sex.
Hmmm
Riding may be better.

That happened to me once after fillup. I never lock the forks, so I am just assuming that when I turned the key counterclockwise to unlock the fuel door I disturbed something deep within the ignition switch. It was at lunchtime at work. Went to go home and everything was fine. Havent had a problem since. That was before the ignition switch recall also.Pesky little electrons. An oldtimer once told me that "electrons" is a French word meaning "all f@#ked up"
