Well I finally inquired on my "warranty" claim for the rear brake rotor. It is obviously declined because of "excessive miles" on the bike. Check your rear rotor for fore and aft play as I figured I had it around the 30,000 mile mark or sooner as I've heard the rattle it makes when you drop the tire when getting it changed out. It wasn't until the last tire I put on I asked the dealer and he pointed it out to me what it was. The rings that hold the rotor onto the mount gets worn, however, they won't honor it because the rotor itself is worn so it is time to replace it anyways, okay, I'll live with that. I checked it again last night and now I've got some side to side play so I've got one on order and will replace it as soon as I get it.

I recently replaced the rear rotor on my wifes Kingpin with one from EBC. It has the same inner hub color (silver) and works fine. Why I did not purchase one from Victory was due to a similar failure of the existing rotor and others that I have seen while visiting this site. Not that it was loose but it was becoming egg shaped or out of round so to speak. Time will tell on how long it lasts but it I was able to get it easier and faster than the Vic part anyway. The front rotor had recently been replaced prior to me getting this bike so I had also rationalized that for some reason there were rotor issues dating back to 2005 models.

I got 32k plus on my Vision and will be replacing the rear tire soon and as usual will inspect for rotor issues at that time.

Hmm, they have after market rotors for the Vision? If this one crums up on me also I will look into going that route. I won't get the new one until after the first week of the new year, dealer on vacation.

I had both the front rotors replaced under warranty due to the rings rusting like crazy. The new ones do not have that issue after about 50,000 miles on them. However, they do probably need to be replaced again though, I just replaced I think the 3rd set of front pads since owning the bike. Got 60,600+ on the clock. Thanks for the insight JSP.

I'm still at a loss as to wat you are describing VA... I've had a lot of bikes with floating rotors and on all of them the bonding rings are loose. I'm thinking maybe what you are describing is they have become excessively loose? Since you stated you can move the rotor from side to side it is probably best to replace them.
I do know that Ness makes rotors for the Vision but they are probably $$$.

excessive is the key word, though the rings be "loose", there should be no fore/aft play on the outer piece, at least not as much as mine did.

...excessive...wait time. Dealer takes vacation all last week so yesterday was the first day since ordering the rotor nearly two weeks ago. Victory has my order, but they have not invoiced it yet. The dealer is calling today to see what is up. The play on the rotor has gotten to the point I don't want to ride it until it is replaced, I don't need the rotor seperating and getting wedged screamin' down I-95. I'm just hoping there is not a long lead time from Victory for this item. I've gone in to DT's "disgruntled travels" in the cage and I'm getting fidgitty and will need a fix very soon.

I continue my personal diary of my brake rotor:

Dear Diary, I called the dealer today and they said the brake rotor shipped the same day they followed up on it, over a week after it was ordered. Coincidence? Tracking says it'll arrive tomorrow. Perhaps I will get up early in the morning, finish my weekly work report and pull the old rotor in anticipation for the new one. I'm so excited that I'll be riding by the weekend again that I nearly wet myself. I just hope no one finds my diary. Good night.

Dear Diary,
This might be my last entry ever... I just finished replacing the rear brake rotor and brake pads (what pads?) in the dark and I'm off for a test ride. It won't matter when I'm gone if they find you, I just wonder what they'll think when the read about....

Dear Diary,
It was good to ride the Bentley again after a week of not riding. The weather was soooo good too. It's going to rain tomorrow and you'll know I'll be riding. I still smell a hint of pine even though I thought I got all the little branches out. Maybe their is one still stuck between the pipe and the guard.

How much is a stock rotor? The Ness rotors are $300 each. I met Deveilboy in Daytona a couple of years ago and he had black carbon fiber rotors on the front of hes Vision. Big bucks, I'm sure.

I'll have to answer for that varyder feller, but I recall it was covered by warranty. They had to "see it to believe it" though. That is a mechanical failure. It also creates an unsafe condition because the rotor would get extremely hot from the vibration and with each ride it was getting worse. I'm not sure of any other options out there at the moment.

im going to contact my dealer this morning. i thought it a replacement was cheap enough i would just avoid the hassle.. i thought about aftermarket, but im not going to pay $300 for a just a rotor. Im pretty disappoint in the short life this rear rotor had.

the replacement is still going strong, though rather worn, but not paper thin. I think they just had ones with the bad rings from the OEM. Victory has had vendor problems, unfortunatley that get's passed along to us.

i went to the dealership where i bought my vision. they give grade A service and are very friendly. they did their very best talking to victory and the GE the exteneded warranty company... (i actually was standing next to them while they called) GE said.. "drum roll please" DENIED!! it is a wear item and they have "never" heard of a vision's rear rotor just going bad. the dealer agreed it was shot. it was just like in the youtube video... so i just ordered a new one and 6 new mounting bolts for it. One guy at the dealer tried to say my car tire probably shortened the life of the rotor due to more contact patch. i said to him (parts guy not owner) that i use front and rear at the same time and my pads were evenly worn.. BTW installing new EBC pads with speedbleeders were the easiest thing ever! so now i wait for a new rotor and bolts.

Chris - I'm stretching to remember but I don't recall buying mine, it was covered, and I believe under the extended warranty. I find myself not keeping detailed records like I should so it would be hard to go back to the exact circumstance. HOWEVER, the little round rings are not a wear item, the ROTER plate is. I even had the front one replaced because of excessive rust on the rings and the dealer took care of that one also.

With that said, IT IS IN ALL HOW IT IS CONVEYED AND WORDED. I wasn't standing there when I my dealer called, but what I understand him to have said is the rotor is LOOSE. Using the word "WORN" would have denied it in my mind because that is what rotors do, wear, so no banana for you. But, rotors are not suppose to be LOOSE (aaaaaahhhhh). Hope you can try again and get better results.

thanks, but the extended warranty company told me dealer to do was, hand me the paper that sales the warranty and had me Read what was covered. and on that paper the rotor wasnt listed.. all the other brake components were.. i guess you were lucky? or maybe the extended wararnty company is cracking down and really following their rules on what is and is not covered? i only say that since they told him to hand me the paper to read whats cover and what is not...

I'd have to read the fine print, because it is mechanical. I've dealt with the blown exhaust pipe and said fine, I'll fix it since it didn't seem to be covered. Despite the rotor not being listed, there has to be some loophole to state that the issue is mechanical, which it is, and not wear. Oh, course, you're the final decision where you say, "okay, I just want my bike fix so I'll pay for it." Precidence is set, and it was a matter of wording.

I am know going through a similar problem. Rear brake rotor seems to be on the very LOOSE side of floating.

Anyone, got replacement parts for front and rear. Who has used what and what seems to be working for you?

When i replaced mine i went with oem (roughly) $200. I saw aftermarket rotors, but they were over $300. Btw when i replaced my rear rotor on my 2008 vision the dealer found out there was a superceded part number for the 08 rotor...
