Every man is in deed entitled to his own opinion.

maybe 'commercially successful' was the wrong way to phrase it... i don't think the Vision has lost money for Polaris... but i wouldn't say it was the most popular model they have ever rolled out... what leads me to believe that... the local dealers here tell me they sell 3 cross bikes to every Vision... there are no shortage of leftover Visions for sale (why are there 2011 and 2010 models leftover if the model is selling well?) ... and of course, the MSP dropped $3,000 from 2011 to 2012... in my business - when we do well with a product... we raise the price (or at least maintain it) ...
either way - the bike is different from what is out there.. but it ain't setting the motorcycle world on fire... and i doubt Harley Davidson is really concerned with Victory threatening their livelihood... there is enough room for BMW K1600's, Goldwings, Visions and all the various Street Glides, Road Glides, Ultras, etc... from Harley...
i know why i ride a Vision... but i am not deluded... it is a motorcycle.. some positives.. some negatives...
my observations don't make me any less enthusiastic about the product.. i just try to stay grounded in reality... i don't have to believe the Vision is God's gift to motorcycling to enjoy it... there are other bikes... and there are good reasons to own some of the other ones... I'm just sayin

I THINK there is some pack mentality when it comes to bike purchasing and ownership. I know a lot of folks that have and will only ever own or ride HD EG's, the RG has a following and obviously Victory is drawing a following of its own. Of the original founding members of my Victory Chapter, only one guy is still riding his 08, and he really babies it. We had a blue 09 and the guy upgraded (if thats the right statement) to a new 08 or 09 Ness Vision, and of course I parted with mine a couple years back. Most of the members are now riding XC's, no XR's that I am aware of and some older Kingpins.
I've owned and ridden the snot out of RG's for many years prior to my Vision and bought a 10 EGC when I parted with the Vision. The EGC was a dog handling wise which is why I parted with it after 1 year, however I had no shoulder pain that I had with the Vision. The RG will run with the Vision in the twisties IF the rider knows the bike, but the Vision turns in faster and instills a very secure feel which can be absent on the RG if the rider lacks experience with the bike.
As someone mentioned my dealer also sells way more XC's than Visions, we all know this Vision design is a love or hate design so it shouldn't come as a shock. That darn sure doesn't mean the Vision isn't a great bike. Heck I was eyeballing a 2011 Ness the guy parted with after only 340 miles. Pretty bike but the owner likes to bounce from one bike to the next. He had a Ness XC for less than 3 months before buying the Vision and now is riding a Triumph Adventure??? Yep big leap.
My point is this... If you love your Vision you are gonna be a little biased in its favor, its natural. Yep it is a unique design but really isn't that what the draw was to begin with? We all know the Vision will outrun a Harley, out turn it in the twisties, but suffers a little in slow parkinglot riding until you really school yourself. Victory had to also know this radical design would have a loyal following but wouldn't be for everyone. I say good on them for spending the money to produce a great machine instead of focusing on how many units they might sell. They get a second ada boy for keeping it in the lineup when their two newer tour targetted bikes sales numbers are better. I'd like to see reverse as standard equipment but the Vic rear suspension makes up for that.
I haven't met ANYONE from ANY brand that has ridden a Vision that did NOT prefer the Vision for handling and ergo's. Speaks well for the bikes design
