Thanks Jedi for the clarification on this. I have Lloydz original intake plate and wasn't sure if getting the new one would be beneficial. It looks like it does. I'll probably order one soon. Thanks!

Jedi Jeff - 2012-01-17 12:27 PM mikev - 2012-01-17 2:52 PM my 2009 vision has a filter in the very front is this an additional filter in the frame work that will need to be changed out also Yes mikev, under the center console there is a cover plate over an opening in the intake manifold (the bike's cast frame, really) on a stock bike. Lloydz determined that shape of this intake manifold really adds turbulence to the air going to the throttle body, and that on performance motors the bike runs out of air at higher rpms. So he designed an additional intake filter to replace the cover plate. It has the benefit of adding more air for increased HP at higher rpms as well as smoothing out air flow to the throttle body. Initially his design was a foam filter sandwiched between 2 flat frames. His latest design is what we are talking about (and pictured above) here. The new filter is similar to a K&N filter in design. It never needs replacing. Just clean it with special oil and put it back in. I doubt it needs to be cleaned very often unless you run in very dusty or rainy locales.

So, what is the recommended time/mileage frame for cleaning this air filter? as it much more of a PITA to do compaired to the front air filter. It's not like you can check it on your pretrip.

Put mine in over the weekend, with snow I have not had a chance to run the bike. My only complaint is on the top left bolt, it is not long enough to go through the 2 bracket plates and the filter body. I think ness provides extending bolt, Lloyde should also.

Go back and check what you did mine is plenty long and I have never read any post where the bolts were not long enough.

The plate is the same thickness as stock. You must of missed something.

No interval has been specified but I would imagine it's gotta be longer than the main filter which gets lots of gunk from the road. At least the Intake plate filter is sheltered from the road but it will still see dust/rain. In other words, your guess is as good as mine!

When I called asking about re use and using a K&N service kit they said they would have a kit out soon and it would be good for 30K. I'll look/clean along with the 5K and after that based on condition I may do every other then check/adjust.

I installed the new Lloydz intake filter. I had Lloydz original intake plate. I have ridden a couples times both city and highway driving now. The new intake filter is quieter than the first - the intake noise is more muffled. I feel the throttle response what a bit better too. The new filter will be able to be taken out and cleaned. I don't think the old one could be taken out, without bending the shit out of it. I used a chisel to get the old intake off...it was the silicone seal stuff that was the issue. The new filter didn't call for it. I think it is worth to do the switch even if you have the first one!

i have the old one and right now i see no real reason to get the new one. From what i read there is no performance difference. and even the noise difference it so little lloyd doesnt make claims of it being more quiet.. i was able to wash mine. the same way you would wash a Uni -air filter. i washed mine when i removed it from the 08 and put it on the 11 vision..

I talked to LLoyd when the new one came out and other than the new one being a bit quieter there's no real difference. And I like the noise the old one makes.

even if the new one is quieter, Really think about it.. how much quieter could it actually be? think about it.. the old one has 2 big circles with a Uni type sponge air filter. the new one also has a large opening but has k&n type cotton as its filter. so the difference is cotton vs sponge.. im sure there is no Night and Day difference.. sound travels through just about anything. im sure Cotton is not stopping anything.. =)

All this talk of noise --- on a motorcycle --- duh! While I won't say, that's the point, noise, I will say, that's the price of freedom on the open road. This thread reminds me of folks that say they love and support their country and the military, then complain about the noise when they live near a military base. Really people, modify and ride...
