I used the search with no luck. Someboby somewhere posted a how to on removing the black center from the factory tip. I can't remember who did it or where I saw it. Can some one point me in the direction of this mod?

That wasn't the one. The mod I'm looking for removes the black center from the factory tip, then you put the factory tip back on.

If you look at the whole article, a little ways down, it shows you how to take apart the tips.

I used a step drill bit it was great. Just drill out the bushing that is in the tips.
Then I went to the hardware store and bought whats called speed nuts. You find them in those little bins. I bought the ones for 1/4x 20 and then bolts and washers. Very easy job and I think I pick up some great sound from my S1's. Three thousand miles and have never come loose.
