Since I can't post anything new there, I figured I'd ask here.
My cruise seems to surge a bit, especially in 6th gear, on flat ground (north of Indianapolis EVERYTHING'S flat ground), little wind, no buffetting from other traffic, 65+ mph, etc. It's not as bad in 5th but still there. Will this "Lash Learn" procedure help my problem? I'd hate to take it in to the local dealer as there's a bit of bad blood. I don't trust them and I honestly don't think they'd do more than take my money and tell me everything's ok.

| Should take care of it. Also, check the throttle cables down at the throttle body behind the right cheese wedge, and make sure the nuts are securely fastening them to their bracket. They have been known to work loose and cause various cruise and throttle issues. |

Peru, IN | I'm actually going in Sat morning to get the recall done (assuming they have the "special" tool by then). Maybe I'll wait to do this procedure until after they do the recall. Still going out for a little ride this morning, though. It's chilly (for most normal bikes ) but I haven't had a chance to ride all week due to high, gusty winds. I'm already having withdrawls. Thanks for the reply.

Peru, IN | Well, shoots that idea. Now I'll have to have the dealer look at it. Tried it again yesterday and especially in 6th, it still surges. Something needs to be adjusted. |

Peru, IN | Loosening them will stop the surging? I guess I can try that and see if it works. I seem to have a little play in the throttle the way it is already. |

Peru, IN | They wouldn't let me back there to the shop. For all I know, they spit on it and called it good. I haven't had any issues so I'm going to assume mine was one of the recalls that was done right the first time. |

| Read your owners manual and you'll see how to put slack in cable. Some place here is a copy of service manual there is a section on how to sink cruise control. It will apply to your bike even thoe its for older models. |

I'll try the lash learn procedure. The mechanic said it's a Vic thing (yesterday) then said he couldn't get going fast enough to shift to 6th (65+) as there was "too much traffic". Funny. I was at 65 about 5 seconds after I left the dealer and rode that way for a few miles. I'm not feeling the trust between the local dealer and myself right now.
I still don't see how putting slack in the throttle cables will eliminate the slack feeling in the cruise. Seems it would need to go the other way (take up slack). I dunno. I'm not a mechanic.

Gainesville Fl Home of the Gators | The problem is there are TWO throttle cables from the grip, and the push cable is fighting your cruise. Look where the cables enter the grip housing. You will see two threaded fittings with lock rings. Loosed the lock rings, and thread the cable IN the housing a couple of turns. Then go ride your bike |

Hmm, I did it a few months back on my 2011, and it did appear to react and blink as described in the book.
I have another cruise control question / issue. Is there a way to change the sensitivity of the cruise cutoff function at the throttle? It just seems overly sensitive when resting my hand on it. If you don't float your hand, it will rotate against the deceleration stop and deactivate the cruise too easily.

Peru, IN | Turk --- I have to make an effort to roll the throttle all the way off (and then some) to get the CC to deactivate that way.
Kevinx --- I tried loosening up the throttle cables to the point where I was having binding issues (from being too loose). Made no difference. The throttle currently has about 3/4-1" of free play (which still seems like a lot but that's about where it was when I got the bike). |

Wish mine was like that. It seems that out of nowhere, if the bike needs to add throttle going up a hill, it'll just shut off because it opens up against the overly sensitive stop... Doesn't happen with my hand removed from the throttle... and no, I don't use a "death grip" on the throttle either..... It's quite annoying actually having it sporadically disengage. |

It's much more than that. I'll deal with it until spring then I'll take it to a "real" shop (aka anything other than the local dealer) to have them look at it. |
