What is the difference between the HID/halogen headlight assy on the '12 Vision? It looks like there's one for a halogen cyclops at about $240 and another for the HID cyclops at about double that. I'm about to put an aftermarket HID (VictoryHID.com) in place of the OEM halogen in the cyclops only. (I'm not messing with the regular headlights as they seem to do just fine.) If I have to go to the trouble of removing half the bike, I want to make sure I'll be ok with the OEM headlight assy. The dealer swore it had an HID so I went with it. I didn't realize it didn't have one until it was dark (after I took possession of the bike). I know the '12s don't have them stock but I figured the original dealer (dealer trade) added one as a selling point. (I asked the dealer to make good on his word and add one but he refused. I won't mention the name of the dealer but it's in Peru, IN.)

I already have a light set up from VictoryHID. It's all a matter of labor now.

Still trying to figure out if there's any difference in the HID/halogen head light assy. I'm referring to the big plastic part that holds all 3 bulbs, not the actual bulbs themselves.

I don't know if there is any difference in the reflectors, but the the halogen lens has a HS1 bracket and the BID lens has a bracket designed for the Victory HID bulb. It is not a standard fitment and you have to buy that same bulb when it burns out at an overpriced amount. Adding a HID bulb to the halogen lens is very easy, the light is well focused and replacements are bountiful.
Legally - you are not allowed to run a HID bulb in any lens not specifically made for a HID bulb. Since Victory manufacturers do make a HID lens, and there is no visible difference between the two, I can't see any inspection station catching on unless they took the bulb out and knew Victory doesn't use HS1 HID bulbs.

We don't have inspections in Indiana so I'd be good there. I have a bulb kit from VictoryHID so it should fit in the hole. According to the guy who runs that site, the kit is a plug n play for the Vision. If the headlight assembly is the same between HID cyclops and halogen cyclops, I'm good there, too. I guess the problem now is getting to the actual disassembly of the front end which I dread.

Thanks for the response.

If you are replacing the halogen bulb with a HID bulb without switching the headlamp assembly, there is no need to dismantle the front end. The single driving light is not as difficult to do as the pair of H4s. Just familiarize yourself with how the clip works so you don't break it, then you will need a new headlamp assembly.

Any tips? I can sort of reach my hand to the cyclops light rubber cover from underneath but I was told most of the front of the bike had to come off. Is there enough room between the headlight assembly and the air filter to pull the bulb out? I can see my hand from the top (with the windscreen trim removed) but I'd be doing most of it by feel. I just bought a service manual which should be here today. If that shows the back of the assy, I guess it might help. Probably easier that there's NOT a factory HID in there now. Not sure I could get 2 screws out without seeing it.

Tes there is room if you pull the filter and adjust your light all the way up.

Does the entire assembly (clear plastic, etc) move when you turn that knob or just the headlight part? The only part I want to change out is the cyclops light.

The inner lens for all three bulb are connected to the knob. When you turn it, it moves all three. I didn't notice any extra room doing it. It seemed to only move the inner lens, not the casing. However, if you go too far, the lens comes off the knob and it's hit and miss trying to get it to reconnect since there is no way to guide the lens back onto the knob. For the cyclops, you will have enough room by just removing the air filter.

Good deal. Thanks. I think I'll try this tomorrow afternoon during the thunderstorms.
