The dealer was SUPPOSED to have actually split the case today and actually look at the transmission. I had really hoped they would have called today. I have had to CALL THEM each time to get information. It is getting irritating right now. I dont think they have been a dealer of Victory for very long. The service manager didnt realize what a job it is to pull the engine and get to the tranny. I just laughed when i was talking to him and let him know that i have been in about three Victory engines where i actually split the case so i knew exactly what he was talking about.

I understand that complete. When the forks broke in my tranny, after waiting 3 monthes for the parts. I was in the dealer and found out the parts where in. No phone call, no we will get right on it. Just a casual, we need to get your bike out of storage as we can fix it next week. The good news is after 7,500 miles on the fix, everything still seems fine.

I did have an issue with lockup on my 2010 crosscountry. I am just reporting what the dealer stated. The bolt holding the fork wasnt tightened up properly and worked loose, so the fork became lodged and bent, and the tranny was stuck inbetween gears or the bent fork was why it was locked. Dont know. They never would let me look at it when they tore it down. Took the dealer months to get it fixed, between approvals to tear down, approvals to repair and parts. Kind of made me mad the dealer bent the fork straight and reinstalled it. They should have put a new one in, but it was together when i found that out. But no issues since.

Any word on this yet, David?

I know a hard core HD rider, averages about 12,000 a year, who just had his compensator jack up his '06, a big something or nother HD. He says he was doing about 30 when the rear wheel locked and he slide some sideways. Come to find the springs in the compensator had been loose and cutting through the metal. When it finalyl got through, it split and locked everything up. Since that is something is NOT suppose to happen, HD is covering it for him and will replace everything including the engine, as it trashed his crank also. He has chosen to go from his 96 to 103 CI for $300 from his own pocket.

Thought about you when he told me this and I remembered we haven't had an update in a while. Hope all is going well.

?

This isthe reason I say one should have at least 2 motorcycles, (ideally 3) one as back up to the
other(s).

im not trying to start anything.. but does ANY states have a lemon law for motorcycles? i know my state (PA) does not.. i ask cause my friend just did a lemon law on his car and if it is in the shop for more than 30 days with in 1 year (12000) miles its instantly a lemon... wouldnt that be something if we had that protection for motorcycles! might make dealers have to be properly trained, or victory to have parts on hand ready... who knows it might also increase costs which then would get pushed on to the customer but for those customers waiting they probably wouldnt care...

Yes you have to pull the engine and 100% rear down. Tranny if last thing to come out. I finally learned that a great (2nd or 3rd) broke 3 teeth. This bound the tranny. They were about to put it together last weekend when they noticed the input shaft and second shaft were bent. Had to order those and send an addendum to my warranty company for approval. So maybe in another two weeks it will be complete. I say two weeks just to keep me from expecting to much.

Understand David, figured they told you when you called. Since it bent stuff up, I'm surprised they wouldn't give you a new engine like Harley in the similar circumstance that I mentioned above. But, I guess Victory is tougher than an Harley engine.

If this is a third party extended warranty and I believe Victory's are then I'm not surprised by the time and the fact they are piecing it back together.

It is a third party. The time is and always has been getting parts and approval from Victory. I have never had am issue Zurich approving or authorizing in a timely manner.

Sounds like Victory has a third party administering the policy, never a good thing for the end user.

I repair trannys in comercial equipment. I see teeth break off all the time. This is caused by excessive loads on the gear teeth. Then there is always a small amount of flex in the shaft that causes the teeth to run at there tips while under high load. A tooth will chip then fold over in between two other teeth. This causes the shafts to flex and bend or break.

But in a bike tranny I cant help think that the gear teeth breaking would be caused by (In our case) how harshly these things shift between 1st 2nd 3rd up and down. I would think eventualy that shock could break a tooth..

I never came accross broken teeth in a MC Lots of sheared off gear dogs from shifting with out a clutch  or having the revs up and putting it in gear ... but no teeth

What do you think?
