What are others using? I have a Google Nexus 7. Yeah, sorry can't worship at the House of Job.....

I would like an app that will send my traveling to a website for friends to follow along, like "Spot". It would be nice if it came with input for fuel costs and such.

Yeah, the Victory one doesn't work with the 7 plus what I have read it doesn't work so good since the last update.

Thanks in advance.

Try Google Latitude. It will do that easily and you can let people you choose follow your journey.

Try Best Biking Routes. Not what you asked for, but a source for some nice rides.

Please...........no one crucify me for saying this, but I had a fellow Victory Rider recommend the Honda Trip Planner Program. I haven't checked it out yet, so can't say anything good or bad yet.

I had went out soliciting similar info as I have been planning my USA 4 Corners Tour route in May, and had been using Google Maps, but wanted to know what else was out there.

Hey Bill is that the app from BMW? I type in greatest road on the Google Play page and nothing by that name shows.
BMW app seems nice but lots of it seems to be available to owners only? I checked HD, BMW bikes, Honda bikes, Triumph, Pirelli and a few others.
Do you have a link, please?

Did you not check out Google Latitude? I use it on my andriod decive and my iPhone. It gives your location as you ride to anyone you allow access to the page. Afterwards you can save the route is desired.

I use Glympse for this....works great.

Glympse is a free real time location sharing program. I use this a lot. I ride alone most of the time. Sometimes Im riding my dual sport others the road....either way Id rather have someone know where Im at. You open this program up, select a person and then it sends them a message (text, email etc) with a link. When they click on this link it loads a map with your location tracking on it. It loads this in their browser so they dont need to download any program ? nothing needs to be done on their end but clicking on the link. What I really like is you set the Glympse to expire.....so say I set it for 2 hours.....after that its done, no more tracking is done. You can end them early if you want to aswell.

Here is a recent post I made on another forum about some Android apps I use while moto traveling........cut and paste

I use my smartphone (Android) so much in my daily life.....I wouldnt say Im dependent on it but damn its handy.

I use it a lot when Im on motorcycle trips. I monitor with weather ahead.......use it for navigation, use it to take pictures and video, let everyone know Im OK etc.

So here are a few apps I use and how I use them.

Navigation is probably the most useful reason for my phone.

Mostly I use Google Maps and Google Navigation. Superb free programs that work great for basic navigation. The crux of these programs are if you dont have any data signal....you dont have any navigation. The upshot, if you DO have data signal you always have the latest maps and POI info (within reason). These are free programs.

CoPilot Live is also on my phone. This program actually downloads all the map data and POIs to your phone (takes approx 1.3gb on your SD card). Its got a lot of features that Google Maps/Navigation doesnt. Trip routing is one I use often. For me its completely replaced my Garmin. They offer free map updates and they are fairly often. I paid $9.99 for the Premium version thru the Play Store.

MapFactor Navigator (beta) is a free solution if you need offline GPS. Its uses OpenStreetMaps data which is a free, open source solution. Its nice because it has worldwide map data. I only use this when I go to other countries.....because I only bought the US version of CoPilot. I dont often travel outside the US but when I do its as simple as downloading the map data Im going to need (directly from the program) and Im covered.

Weather.....well there are tons of weather apps out there and I dont think any one is better than another but there is one that I think deserves special mention.

RadarNow! - its a free app. Its simple......your run the app.....it grabs your current location and displays the radar map for your area. No typing in what city.....no searching.....its not on the 5th tab or halfway down the screen. I think its great when Im riding in bad weather......a quick glance gives me the radar data. I can then adjust my route or speed as needed. Last time I used it was on a group trip, I lead and used the radar data to choose our stops. We rode in front of a rain storm (adjusted our speed to always stay in front)......then I picked our lunch stop and let the rain pass.....we stayed dry all day.

AllStays Camp and Tent is a great tool if your a camper when you ride. Its $4.99 but it lists all the camping spots, what they offer, price etc. The data is offline so you dont need data service to retrieve it. Really handy tool.

What I really like is you set the Glympse to expire.....so say I set it for 2 hours.....after that its done, no more tracking is done. You can end them early if you want to aswell.

Ulysse Speedometer is another program I use. Its a full featured speedometer/odometer application that uses your GPS. Ive got one bike (a little bare bones bobber) that doesnt have a speedometer ? this works great. I also use it on my other bikes when riding in a group.....it has several user adjustable odometers.....so I use them to keep track of how many miles the other people in my group have ridden when planning gas stops. Most of the functionality is in the free version but there is also a paid version for $2.25 thats adds some features.

You do not need a data signal to have Google navigation. I usually turn Airplane Mode on when using navigation so I am not tempted to view a text message or email while riding. A data connection is only needed to initiate the navigation (retrieve the map). Once in navigation mode a data connection is not required. I turn Airplane Mode off at gas stops so the map can update.

If you know you will be in an area where there is no data signal and you will initiate navigation from that area (a hotel in BFE), cache the map of the area before you leave home (or the last city you know you will have a signal).

True.....if you never leave the route or change the destination and it doesnt request more data.....but thats rarely the case for me. While in Canada I often didnt have a data connection......so if I was wanting POI info I was hosed.

You now can cache offline data with Google Maps.....but again, thats assuming you stick to a plan and dont end up somewhere you didnt plan to.

Honestly I often leave on a bike and head a direction with zero plans.

.....still I think Google Navigation is a great app and its what I use 90% of the time.

Thanks everyone. More choices everyday.

Didn't need an app the last few days cause of Sandy. No power at work till today. Still no broadband at home. Some places got hit hard. It took me 15 minutes to pickup branches and no water damage. Lost 1 section of stockade fence. The beaches near me got beat to hell.

OK, so maybe it's a stupid question, but I'm looking for something that has turn by turn directions that are voiced, so I can just listen and not be tempted to watch the screen. Anything out there for that?

Google Navigation and CoPilot mentioned above both have turn by turn directions and are voice.

Not a stupid question at all. There are so many devices and apps out there that no one can know the capabilities of all of them. With Google Navigation I plug the aux input of the Vision's stereo into my phone and wait for the chick to tell me to turn. She will speak over iHeart Radio, Pandora, my mp3 list, or whatever I have playing at the time. I can easily mute her if I decide to take a different route.

The easy answer for me was using my iHone for voice nav. I have 3 programs actually, and each has voice nav, it's own advantages and I simply set a route and hook up my iPhone, then listen to my tunes. Voice comes right thru the speakers!

MotionX GPS Drive....my fav. Good Nav, Got Rachael, an optional voice for $0.99 App was like $3 and voice nav is $10/year. I have about 3 years. THis app D/L's the maps as needed so you need a cell connection OR you need to pre-load maps before you go.

MapQuest - As good as GPS Drive unless you look at the screen. Just a so-so visual interface. The advantage here is I can go online and work up my own route easily, then save it and it goes right to my phone app! Yea, baby!! THIS IS A FREE APP!! FREE WITH VOICE NAV!!

Garmin - Bought the $40 or $50 with all the maps loaded. That way if you lose a cell signal, as long as you have GPS and you almost always do you are good to go.

I'm pretty sure you can get all these on Android.
