In the first place... Ya gotta wonder who in the world ever gave the term; of the sensor hole in a head pipe; a "bung hole" Someone probably long ago derived that term for it after wrestling and cussing it out; in an attempt to work with it; and finally calling it an "asshole!" in frustration... and then someone else came along and termed down the phrase to the more politically correct term of a "bung hole".

Yes, that is my hypothesis on this.

bung-hole (n.)
also bunghole, "hole in a cask for a stopper," 1570s, from bung (n.) + hole (n.). Sense extended to "anus" by c.1600.

You're probably pretty close. Looks like it started out with wine casks. I wouldn't have guessed it would have a "darker and dirtier" (I can't stop) meaning by 1600. Figured that happened on Beavis and Butthead. (Cornholio says "I need TP for my bunghole!"

I do not want to have to tap the bung hole....

The things you guys talk about! Freak.

Ha! Ya... that sounds odd when you read it.....

But......

GOT 'ER DUN !!!!!

Used some penetrating oil on the sensors, let it sit for 2 hours while I raced around on my DR650 looking for a offset 22mm 12pt wrench (found it) and then was able to get a good bite on the rear sensor; she came off with no difficulty.

The front one... well the damned offset wrench couldn't get a bite on it... so I tool Rylan's advice and used a 7/8's open end wrench; and got it to break loose too! Nice that I didn't destroy the O2's... so if I ever have to retrofit them; it won't be an issue.

Now I can't find any copper anti-seize for the bung plugs... do ya'll think regular anti-seize is OK in this area of heat?

Regular anti-sieze will burn off from the heat

Thinking about doing this and installing Lloyds timing advance gear. Hopefully I'll like the results.

Ya, I was think that too after I poised the question... I am going to see if I can find Hi-temp anti-seize at Pep Boys or Advance Auto... or somewhere... maybe Napa

I would, but it appears that I like to make things complex for myself. I finally found some Hi Temp Anti-Seize (the copper stuff) at West Marine (boat store) but forgot to take a plug with me to size it for a copper washer.

So instead of buying a plethora of different sized copper washers; I'l just use a fine bead of the read Permatex hi-temp gasket maker (sealant).

This will be a story someday for someone's grand kids... cause I ain't got none!

At any rate... this thread will certainly help others ...to watch out for that bung hole and it's inherent difficulties.

You'll never had kids/grandkids if you keep putting your lubed nuts in someones bunghole.
