Hey all,

I have located a 2011 Vision Tour and I have a couple questions.

Are there any issues with this year.

The Bike has 15000 Km 9000 Miles and the seller is indicating that the brakes need to be done. This seems very low with Brakes needing to be done.

Any feedback would be awesome.

Cheers

I have a 2011 with over 36,000 miles. Fairly early on it needed to have an ABS sensor replaced (under warranty), and I changed the brake pads around 22,000 miles. Other than that, runs great.

There are many folks on this forum that are MUCH more qualified to answer the 2011 question. Regarding the brake wear, it really depends on the type of driving the owner was doing. City, Highway, combination? It could also indicate a couple of things. The owner rode the bike hard or it was an inexperienced driver or it could mean they were just hard on the breaks. Does it need front and back brakes? I would ask him or her these questions.

I own a 2011 Vision Tour with 47,000 miles on her that is still in it's stock condition other than a heel-toe shifter and lower wind deflectors being added.
I've basically fully enjoyed my riding experience while traveling through all 48 contiguous states and parts of Canada.

I've had two large problems.
I have had an ABS erratic failure ever since 10,000 miles that has now developed into total failure of the module.
It would disable itself periodically for a few hours or even days at a time.
Then it would function normally again for months at a time.
It's been in the shop a half a dozen times to be hooked up to the diagnostic system over the last 2 years and they couldn't narrow it down as to what exactly was causing the faults.
Since I'll ride all day in the rain, not having a functioning trustworthy ABS system really ticks me off.

I recently had a catastrophic wiring harness short that caused the destruction of my heated grips, heated seat, front brake line, and disabled the cruise control.
It blew the 20A Chassis fuse but the bike still ran fine mechanically and I was able to drive it to the dealership.
I'm now under my extended warranty which paid for (minus $50 deductible) most of the labor, heated grips, and new wiring harness, but would not pay for the replacement of the heated seat ($700) or the brake lines ($200+ to the front brakes.
I'm not real happy about them not covering the seat or the melted brake lines. GRRRR

Some problems that I have read about are;
1. Cracks in the headlight plastic around the edges. (Not mine)
2. Fogging in the headlight lens plastic. (I've seen this but not on mine)
3. Belt squeaking. (Yep, I had this happen to me over the first 10,000 miles and had it readjusted several times)

I replaced the brake pads, front and rear, at 25,000 miles and they were still OK.
Also replaced the wheel bearings around the same time and will do so again the next service.
I've decided to replace the drive belt even though it looks perfect (I have a 5,000 mile trip planned for next month)
I've replaced the spark plugs twice, and will do so again when it's in for its next service.
I've had to replace both headlights around 23,000 miles and also had a taillight and center stack light fail.
I get around 12,000-14,000 miles on my rear tires and replace the fronts at the same time because I like all new rubber.
I have been averaging 40.5 MPG.

Let me suggest that you install the lower wind deflectors before picking up your new scoot.
It takes at least 18 hours for the glue to cure at 70+ degrees.
These deflectors will help keep you warm(er) and dry(er) in the cold and rainy weather, and when turned in they will help to blow the heat off of your legs.

I would also caution you to NEVER use anything but a small hand air pump to adjust your rear shock.
A sudden inrush of compressed air could blow the seals. (insert joke here)
Compressed air could also inject water vapor into the shock which is not good.

You don't have to use Victory branded oil, but I have and haven't had any transmission or engine problems.
You most definitely have to use JASO MA certified oil to assure that you don't glaze the clutch plates.

Would I buy it again?
YES

My 2011 has around 9,000 miles and brake pads still have plenty of wear left in them.

Regarding your ABS issue, that's pretty much exactly the symptoms I experienced. The error codes on the diagnostic computer (Digital Wrench software) weren't very helpful, as it listed several possibilities, iincluding the module itself. We decided to start simple, and my dealer ordered a new sensor in experiment with. Bingo, that was it, turned out to be the rear sensor. I'd bet your issue is one of the two sensors. Even if they don't cover it, they aren't that expensive or difficult to replace... well, the rear was a bit of a PIA due to tight quarters routing the cable/connector, but it can be done without tearing the bike apart. Front is a piece of cake. Get your dealer to order one in, and start with the easy front. If that's not it, move it to the rear....
As I said, I'll bet it's one of 'em. Possibly both.... much cheaper and easier than replacing the entire module to find out though!

same here.
Intermittent ABS light, then finally light stayed on all the time. Digital wrench didn't find it.
Replaced the rear sensor. Wires were cramped (pinched) between the exhaust and frame.
No more ABS issues. Sensor about 60 bucks

I am on my forth rear tire, changed the pads cause I figured it should have been time, however I could have gone one more tire, maybe two more. I never use the front except in hard braking or in an emergency. Under normal driving, I rarely use brakes except for a complete stop. I am sure glad I purchased the first year bike, seems the latter years are having all the issues. My '08 has not missed a beat. Even original battery after 5 long Canadian storage seasons.

Just sayin!!!!

Turk,

In past tests the problem seemed to emanate from the front pickup sensor.

That's what we had hoped for, but after extensive testing this time, the mechanic has found that the main module is shot.

My dealer is working with Victory right now since I've suffered through this problem for almost 2 years.  While at the AVR last year I talked with an engineer about my situation and explained that I had experienced an ABS failure while riding through Chicago in the rain on my way there.  You pretty much hope your ABS is fully functioning while riding in bumper to bumper traffic in a heavy downpour.

I waited until the Vision came equipped with ABS before purchasing one.

My previous bike also had ABS and I had zero trouble with it.

In my experience, "testing" never really isolated the issue. The diagnostics on my bike also indicated the main module in almost every series of codes. But, replacing the sensor solved it. Again, it's far easier and cheaper to replace one or both sensors than it is to tear into the main module. I would try the easy/cheap stuff first if I were you or your mechanic!!!
