My wife and I are renting a couple of bikes in the St Petersburg area of Florida, are there any must see highways in the area? Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks Don

Freaked me out ... "Thanks Don"

I thought - who is this 'nice rides' guy? How does he know I rode bike in Florida for 5 years?
Then I found out that your name is also 'Don'.

Oh well - now that the fingers are going I might as well tell you that there is NOTHING to look at in Florida (compared to BC) and certainly NO roads worth riding on that I would call "nice ride".
Lots of NICE PEOPLE (and some not so nice).
Weather can be NICE (for part of the day - then not so nice).

Just consider whatever you do there, and whatever you see there - as part of a 'life experience' - move on, and do something better somewhere else.
Best stuff I saw: Kennedy Space Center | Sea World | parts of Disney | West Coast Islands

Biking??? NOTHING

Per: DON - everybody knows what a crank I am ....

And this is being typed in a Best Western in Oak Harbor, WA

I just traversed Chukanut Drive down the northern coast of Washington - then over to Deception Pass and Whidby Island - in 60 degree sunshine and no traffic.

HEAVEN ....

Tomorrow - The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, then over to Mount Baker for a ride back home on a highway MADE for bikes - Rte 9

Two days that beat the HELL out of 5 years in Florida ...

Sorry but I have to agree with Don. If you want to ride the sand in Daytona that's okay. If you want to ride to Key West that's okay. I used to ride from one to town to another for 43 miles and never move the throttle. Remember what they call a hill we call a speed bump. I remember one curve where there were BIG signs all the along the road saying 25 mph. I used to do it at 55 only cause it wasn't finished.
It's nice to get away to some where you haven't been before but Florida is like riding a blueberry pancake. Don't get me started on how the tourist drive. On another note every one of the illegal immigrants drive perfectly so they don't get pulled over.
Make sure to flash your brake light at every stop. A lot of bikes get tail ended.

Yea, the Florida Dragon, 11 turns in 318 miles. I do have to agree with the other posts that it is kind of boring riding. If you like the water, look up Ana Marie and Long Boat Key. It's a nice faitly short ride from St Pete over the Skyway bridge. How long are you down for?

"Warning" Don't forget to use Sun Block 100 while riding or you will blister your face pretty quick!

CW, We have been here for three weeks so far, we spent a week over in Fort Lauderdale with friends, where we rented from Eagle rider and went to Key West for 3 days and then we came back to our condo on Madeira Beach for the last week and next week. We have bikes rented from Jim?s Harley for Wednesday (tomorrow) for the day and just wanted to get out for another burn before heading home, looking forward to an early spring in Canada!

I ride to Key West at least once a year and find the western route to be more scenic and have far less traffic congestion.
Once I clear Naples I hop on the Tamiami Trail to head eastward to get to 1A to complete my ride to Key West.
Going this route will save you quite a bit of toll money.

Thanks for the advice everyone, we decided to go to Fort De Soto, and afterwards out to Long Boat key, though Sarasota, and for a short run through Clearwater. That kept us busy for the day !

Thanks
Don
