Something different that I have not seen a post on. I hate the mirror distortion that is built into the Vision Mirrors. Like the passenger side view mirror on a car. I've always wanted to replace them with NORMAL mirrors. I like to see exactly how far things are behind me, not a distored view.

So, does anyone know how the actual glass part of the mirror comes off? Is it just glued on? No, not the entired assembly, that's in the service manual. But the glass mirror itself. It would be nice to know before I brak the mirrors and have a guy cut new ones for me from NORMAL mirror stock.

Anyone?

Do us a favor before you rip out that glass. Park a car a specific distance behind the bike then sit on the bike and snap a pic of the stock mirror. Once you've swapped out for the non-convex glass, do exactly the same (same car, same distance, etc). That way the rest of us can see what the difference looks like before we try the same thing.

I don't have any idea how the mirror glass is attached but I've never seen any that WASN'T glued on to the base.

you know how to pull mirror. I don't know for sure but I do think the "mirror" is glued to the plastic base. A mirror shop could tell you for sure. Maybe a heat gun and a flat kitchen knife you could un glue it.
Maybe even go to walmart and find a ladys com pack mirror and double back tape it in place and see what you think.
Ask the mirror shop for visual quality

Get real. All right side mirrors are set up so that "images in the mirror are not as far away as they seem". Relax and take inventory. This is far from the first time you have seen that statement. After a short time using them, these "distorted" mirrors all look about the same. Just use what you have, it works just fine and gives you a good field of vision. With a bit of experience, you can judge distance using them very well.

I actually installed a 3 x 4 inch 'fisheye' mirror on the left side of my old VENTURE ROYALE since I use mirors as 'refference only' and don't spend a lot of time looking in the mirrors while moving (stopped at a light is another story until the moron behind me stops) a glance should be all you need, not a long mental discussion as to exactly what shade of blue that TOYMOTOR is behind you, and completely miss the bright yellow bread truck that's just pulled out in front of you.
If you really want to change it out, any auto glazing shop can cut you a mirror and change it out for you for a few bucks then, if they break it they get to buy it. My kid learned that installing a $500.00 custom windshield in his chopped 72 C-10 pickup, now it's back to the glass shop.

Your field of view will be diminished.

Thanks Johnny and Monkey for the suggestions.

Oldman47, thanks for nothing but your incorrect comments about distorted mirrors and your condescending attitude. It reminds me to be thankful I'm not like you. Most right side mirrors on bikes are NOT distorted. So no need for you to act so all high and mighty when you don't know shitz from shine-ola.

Oldman --- Are you aware the BOTH mirrors are convex on a Vision? Some people like convex mirrors and some like flat. I prefer flat but I understand I'll lose a little bit of width to gain some depth (like bigfoot said). That's why I'd like Max to do a comparison before I rip my own mirrors out.

I added a second set of mirrors using the factory threaded mount points on the handlebars. Marc Parnes suggested it and I think its one of the best additions to the Vision. The field of view of the factory mirrors provide a good view and the 2nd set really fills in reward vision. Another reason I added the mirrors are the stock ones give you a good view of your knuckles. Styling vs functionality.

I am aware that both OEM mirrors on a Vision, a Harley and a Yamaha are all convex with those little warning messages at the bottom of the glass, yes I went back and checked after the rant by MaddMAx2u. Lots of after market mirrors are flat, but that is becoming rare for any OEM mirror. The after market mirrors are flat because some people prefer them that way.

I like the "edge" the mirrors give being convexed, but with the smaller size and the vibration it's hard to tell if the man is coming up on me. I don't that flat mirrors would help that situation...

Ok I mentioned this before and will mention it once more. Many Vision riders want the lower wind deflectors, how about mounting west coast truck mirrors, You will get both wind coverage, and solve the problem with rear vision! Now for the ones that still like the convex mirrors, you are able to buy the ones that are split. Hell even motorized you can adjust on the go!

Just sayin!!!!

I like that suggestion Norcan. I think those mirrors are even bigger than the lower wind deflectors. Might be a bit tough to use the mirror part if you were trying to direct wind to cool yourself in summer though.

Oh no, the old time cab over trucks had a wind deflector to move air along side windows to keep rain and sleet off other wise they would mist up. Same idea.

A back-to-back comparison would be nice to see.
