Anyone using the XM option for the 2820? Does the audio come through the speakers and if so, how is the quality of the sound?

I am not using one as of yet. But i asked a question simular to yours. i was told that i would have to use the audio out and plug in the 3.5mm plug that is used for a MP3 player in order to get true stereo sound. If you plug it in directly with the gps plug you only get monotone sound.

I am using the Garmin antenna and XM receiver (combination) and paid about $150 for it. The service is additional, of course. The sound is just fine, but you have 2 choices. Since my GPS is wired into the Vision directly, it will play mono sound thru the speakers. If you choose, you can connect it through the Garmin's aux output on the left side and plug it directly into the aux input of the Vision located in the left glove box. If you do this, the sound is stereo and plays through all the speakers and sounds very good, despite the compression. Personal opinion, I think any compression artifacts or degradation of the sound is nullified by the wind noise, etc of the bike. Now, I am having my bike wired (at the dealer as we speak - eh - write) for the intercom system. This will allow me to plug in my Nolan helmet headset with high end J&M speakers directly and hear the sound both in my headset and the speakers, or just the headset. I'm hoping that will be even better since it should eliminate the wind noise, etc.

BTW, I also bought the cheaper multi-year package that included the traffic and weather reports and both of those work well also. For me, this and the much cheaper price, makes for a better value and more flexibility than buying the expensive Vision system, which doesn't include traffic/wx, but is integrated into the LCD. The display on the garmin is fine, so I don't need the LCD.

+1 agree totally! I have tried XM through GPS(mono) and XM through GPS audio out(stereo)
and heard No appreciable difference...
if you were in a sound room with high output stereo system you would hear the difference..
