All,

PowerCommander has a unit for the Vision that is supposed be able to adjust cylinders independently.  They are developing new maps for it based on various bike modification combinations.  They have a location in Las Vegas to develop new maps if you are interested.

Sincerely,
Tim

Here is what they wrote:

=============================== %< snip >% =======================================

We have tested part #938-411 on the Vision and it does work.

The local Arlen Ness/Victory  dealer has been pushing the Vision Power Commanders quite a bit so we will eventually release it for this model as they are getting good results.  I need to get another one in here to take install pics.  Once I have an install guide we will release it so look for it in August.

We currently have the attached maps but if you know of someone with any other mods send them our way.  The bike would need to be dropped off for the day.

TimS-

A couple of questions: Since you already have a Lloydz VFCIII, do you plan on replacing it with a Power Commander when they have the Vision model ready? Also, where did you buy the xenon bulbs? Your triple horns; are they air horns?

John,

I will probably give it a try to see if it does a better job than the VFCIII on the California bikes.  I have to find a day that I can take it to Vegas.  The VFCIII was developed on the 49 state bikes and there appears to be a bit of difference between the 49 and 50 state bikes.  Also, there is more support centers for the PC out here on the West coast versus the VFCIII.  Since PowerCommander makes custom maps for each modification combination, it may have a better chance addressing the 50 state bike issues.

Xenon Kit:  I can not recommend the kit that I purchased.  They have ZERO customer support.  I had to rewire the "Plug-n-Play" harnesses to get them to work on the Vision in addition to replacing a DIODE that was bad.  I had to reshape the base of their bulbs to fit into the Vision's H4 keyed housing.  Their bulb bases were completely round and not keyed.  I also found that they emit interference that impacts the reception of the CB.  In short, I would look for another manufacturer with real customer support.  I see that www.CustomDynamics.com has a XENON kit that you might want to check into.  I have purchased other parts from them and have had no problems with them.

Triple Horns:  I kept the factory horn and then added a Stebel Nautilus Compact dual frequency motorcycle horn to make a 3 tone/frequency horn.  FWIW, the Stebel horn advertises 139dB, but this is misleading.  Normally, sound pressure levels are measured at a distance of 1 meter.  They measured their horn at a distance of a couple of inches.  At 1 meter it is @ 120dB.  19dB is a huge difference.  Chalk another one up for the advertisers.

HTH,

Tim

From what I have read here, the VFC III requires disconnecting O2 sensors, which never set right with me. I talked with my Victory tech and he said that the Ness bigshot is plug and play, O2 sensors stay connected. He has had better luck with Ness. He also mentioned something about changing to Bosch O2 sensors that I didnt have time to ask about in detail the last time I was there. Seems like O2 input would be needed to optimize A/F ratio.

Anything emission related must be certified through CARB before it can be sold in Ca. It costs $$$$ for cert. If a manufacturer feels he cant recoup the expense of cert. he might decide to pass on it. Considering the low production numbers of the Vision. I dont think there's any money in it for them.

Do we know what base maps they will have available on release date? I am adding honker pipes and Lloydz intake plate within the next few weeks and need to choose my engine management choice really soon. My dealer wants to charge $130 for a S1L2 reflash and I don't know if that is money well spent.

FWIW, the VFC3 and I believe the PowerCommander use the stock maps.

$130 to press a button on the keyboard seems to be a bit much considering the cost of the pipes and install.

I am doing all the installs myself and I agree with the $130 for 2 min of work. I also am NOT paying $100 for pipes to be installed. Call me cheap.

I understand that using a piggyback system utilizes the stock ecu mapping, but do we know what maps will be available for the Power Commander (what upgrades will be targeted at release, etc)?

Wow, $130, Is that all labor, or is there some charge for the program or whatever? I know nothing about this stuff but that just seems high for no more than what I would think it entails.

If you live near Las Vegas, they are making new maps (see original post) to build up their Vision support library.

I will have the same configuration as you, but with a 50 state bike and 50 state emissions.

Tim

I have  been flashing embedded devices for 20+ years.

It should take longer to put the bike on and remove it from the lift than it does to flash it (depending on where the interface connector is).

I am in Ohio. That would be a great ride though.

I will follow this thread and see how yours turns out. I have a number of places right around me that can tune PC, and no one has heard of VFCIII.

RotnRat, talking to the techs, they just plug in the computer to the pigtail by the schraeder valve for the rear shock and reflash. Takes all of 5 min to do. I am not sure if there is a licensing fee for this, but I doubt it. My sales person keeps refering to it as a card that needs to be installed and I confirmed with the techs that this isn't the case.

John,

The "card" that your dealer maybe referring to maybe some sort of flash registration process with Victory and not necessarily a physical electronic card to be installed on the bike.

Sincerely,

Tim

Glad to hear dynojet is getting the new closed loop usb unit ready. I have had several pc units on my my Victory hammers, my bike would be a 49st model and i will have a freind build a map for my bike on a dynojet dyno for big honkers and the lloyds intake. I have all ways been able to email the maps so once one is made people could share with out making the drive with similar set ups allthough regional fuel differences can play into the net result. FYI the reflash cards for the vic programs are nothing more than a code that the factory issues and charges the dealer the part# usually has 30% markup on them please keep us posted on the pc availibility..

I'm with you all on the $130 is too much for a EEPROM flash. The amount of labor it takes to upgrade a bikes airflow has lessened but the labor cost did not. It used to be worth it to put the bike on a dyno and re-jet the carb. Now it's a USB-serial cable and a keystroke for the same $. When buying OEM upgrades, I would think the proprietary flash software would be included with the price. If I do any more upgrades to the engine, I'm definitely going to get a tuning interface (be it Lloyds or otherwise) and do it myself from the get-go.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, I was a GM tech for 25 years doing mostly driveability and electrical so I have flashed my share of computers. A half hours labor would be over kill but not totally unreasonable, but $130 thats gotta be close to 1.5 hours unless they are charging for something else or they have one heck of a labor rate!
