When I test rode a Vision, before I purchased mine, the coach said to be careful and not let a foot get caught under the rear tip-over bar when taking off. He said folks like me, used to riding a BMW or Wing, tend to drag their feet when taking off.

Sure enough, I was turning in a circle at a gas stop today, there was a rise in the concrete around a filler hole, my left foot drug and caught the rise, pulling my foot under the tip-over.

Ouch! Twisted my foot real bad. The foot turned under and was bent backwards. I jerked it out, but she be real sore tonight.

My Vision bit me!

Sorry to hear that you got hurt.

Good idea to always leave the passenger foot rest in the down position to help prevent that from happening.

It is one of those learning experiences that you only let happen once.

Thanks for the kind words. The foot feels pretty good this morning considering...............

Since I'm doing alright, I'm actually glad it happened.

As the saying goes; If it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger.

Thanks for the tip on the rear floor boards.

Since some of you tuned-in to my post, here are a couple of pix from my ride yesterday through Andersonville National Cemetery.

know how you feel. it will happen again if you don't keep the passenger floorboards down. That alerts the calf dafoot is about to get eaten.

Did this in my driveway. Turning around and caught my inside foot.......praised the tip overs or I would have been nursing more than a bruise.

After I did this to my right foot I realized it had to do with the way I learned to ride 30+ years ago. The conventional wisdom was to sit with your left foot down, and right foot on the brake. I subconsciously have always slightly kicked my left foot forward when taking off.
On the Vision, due to the size/weight, I have both feet down, and have had to retrain myself to give the right foot a little kick forward as well.

And btw, nice pics!

Guys! Pick your damn feet up! Sure putting the passenger boards down alerts you but learn to ride correctly and get rid of the BAD habit. The gyroscopic effect takes over at 2MPH. Go to a parking lot and practice PLEASE. It will save you a lot of pain.

Same thing when coming to a stop. Keep you right foot on the brake and you left foot slightly off the board when coming to a stop. When the bike stops you will gracefully touch your foot down when the bike is COMPLETELY stopped. Coming to a stop and flopping both feet out and using your front brake is a recipe for disaster and you look like a turkey coming in for a landing.

This isn't a rant guys. It is trying to teach you how to be safe.

Pops, I never have my feet anywhere near the ground after maybe 3 feet of motion. The Vision is quite a nice bike but it will definitely bite if you are foolish enough to try to walk it. Once you are moving at even very low speeds, get your feet up onto the floorboards unless you are going so slow you are actually falling over. I pull away from stops with my feet up within the first few feet. When I stop my feet never touch down until I have actually stopped and start to lose my balance. I got bit by my rear tipovers exactly once, when I first bought my bike. Since then they have not been given the chance to bite me.

Plus you're more aerodynamic when you quickly retract the landing gear.

Good information and thanks to all.

You are correct, the Vision has such great balance, easy to raise your feet/foot when taking off.

Coming from a very top heavy BMW 1200 LT, which you have to "spread eagle" when going slow, I've got to get used to these new habits on the Vision. The LT doesn't have the V TWIN in line crank so it doesn't balance until you get moving at a good pace.

In my case here, I was doing a small circle, turn around, almost dropped the bike on the left side, foot was down because of this. I'm doing some parking lot practice now. New bike and new demands.

Thanks again!

I hit some loose gravel in a turn and instinctivley put my foot down . Because I had very rigid boots on, the rear tip over didn't get me, it kicked my foot forward. Since then , I have been trying to train myself not to put my feet down even in a slide. If it ever happens, I want the tip overs to take over. When it actually happens, I don't know if I can over ride my instinct. I've seen young football players put there arm down to break a fall and it broke my friends sons arm (growth plate) Twice! They are trying to teach him to depend on his gear/equipment.

I've been riding for longer than I want to admit and it happened to me once, occasionally we all leave our feet down a second longer than needed. Put the rear floor boards down and get plenty of warning.
