Any of you folks have a look at Kelly Blue Book to see what type of loss the Vision has taken already? I did and all I can say is OUCH!!!!

Now wait..... This is NOT a Vision knock because I also looked up SEVERAL other big tour rides and they ALL took a similar hit in resale/trade-in value.

With everyone buying and then many selling their bikes for reasons they did not foresee (job loss, economic issues, fear, etc..) it has flooded the market and driven prices way down. I began seeing this pattern two years ago when Harley released the TC96 and everyone needed to have one. The TC88 models literally lost 2k in resale overnight. It appears the trend will continue.

In addition the gap between metric bikes and brands like Victory, Harley, BigDog are all closing as the metric are increase in $$$ cost. Crazy time we live in, but dang are we spoiled for choice, lol...

Hey guys the same is true of ANY vehicle with the exception of the higher end vehicles like 'vettes, etc.

As a financial planner I often tell my clients the best thing to do is buy a 1-2 year old car and let the original buyer take the depreciation hit. Well guess what....I didn't buy a used Vision. lol

Well I would hope that anyone buying a vehicle for resale needs to do their homework first. I guess that point has already been made. But the depreciation is no surprise to me, nor concerns me because I don't plan on selling until my Vision is worn slam out. I guess I could get a dime or two then because it is a FIRST YEAR edition. Believe you me, I'll get my 25K out of this set of wheels. I've only bought 4 vehicles in my life brand new, all my used ones except one I got more than my money's worth out of. Out of my new ones, I broke even with one when I sold it for what I had remaining on the loan. The rest, I've either ran the wheels off or currently running them off, 2007 Liberty (the wife), and the 2008 Vision. Neither one have we had "buyers" remorse, both a great vehicle.

This is my first NEW motorcycle ever and most likely my last new motorcycle. Heck it may even be my very last motorcycle. It's hard to imagine there will ever be a motorcycle that could replace the Vision, unless of course it's a newer Vision.

I am the same way about the Vision Crawford. It is the first bike in about 12 years that actually excited me. People ask me how i like it, and i get speechless. i liken it to a small child getting his first bike for Christmas. I still have my 750 shadow that i bought new in Jan 1999 and it will end up being my project bike. My better half has actually picked up a book from the DMV to study for her Motorcycle license and she says she wants the shadow, but i think her true motive is for me to get her a Spyder in the next year.

Lots of people just "Dumping" their bikes to get rid of them (Thus my hard time selling the Volusia and Valkyrie). I know their true value but until some of the desperate selers get theirs off the market, the prices will stay low. But I am not going to compromise to dump them. I will just keep them maintained and clean until the market has lees in it.

******THREAD HIJACK WARNING******

David, have you ever riden Vegas Low? Do you all have one for demo? I've tried to get Catlin's to let me test ride one but they've not had one set up to do, but I'd really like to check one out. The first time I noticed one, I didn't even know that it was a "Low", I just thought it looked like something I wanted ride. It was sitting next to a regular Vegas and it wasn't until I read the tag did I know the difference. Victory says that the 2009's will have a King Pin Low and I think I'd really like to check that one out. When the wife gets to work I might look into getting one for the fun of it, but I've got to see how it rides first. The only other rationale is to keep miles off the Vision, but there again, it really doesn't matter.

Last i heard, the shop up in Hampton has a low. If you talk to anyone, talk to Mike. Allout cycles is family owned and run. Morris and his wife Marie started it, the sons, Mike, David and Robby basicaly run the stores with freindly input from pop. David Hansin and Morris (Dad) take care of the store in Chesapeake. I know we are supposed to have a display at the DelMarVa bike week. I am trying to volunteer for that show so i cna go and hangout and do demo rides at the Victory truck.

And if the quality issues weren't enough to get me to NOT take the 10th! Now I won't be able to get anything out of it when I sell it.

When I bought my '99 Vic, I spent the next 9 years enjoying the bike, and not worrying about the resale.

If I wanted a bike to be an investment, I would have bought a pristine vintage bike. My Vision is a daily driver, not babied, not coveted... just ridden, fast and often. When I'm done with it I'll just get another bike... probably a Vic!

Like I posted else where;
The second year of the Corvette and Chevy was damn near giving away the first year models. Of course all these years later and how much is a first year Corvette worth? I don't expect a '99 or even a first year Vision to be worth what a Corvette is but at least there is hope.

A 1970 roadrunner new was about 3,500 now selling for over 100,000.
The vision may be just such a vehicle. Barrett Jackson 10 years from now?
Check out the vincent or the crocker $80,000 plus

I don't buy bikes for resale value. Invest in oil if you want resale value. Looking at resale value now is like that guy on the commercial that bids on a painting, wins, then wants to sell it back.

Smitty needs to do the world a favor and walk away from his 10th Anniv edition before he even lays eyes on it.  Save it for someone who will really appreciate it and enjoy it for what it is.  Sounds like he's got acid in his stomach every time he mentions it.

I don't believe the premise that KBB collected data on each of the Vision models to render a judgement on what they bring on a trade or what they retail for used. I don't believe that that many used Visions have been sold to date; in all five configurations no less.
I'm not saying Kelly isn't expert at what they do, I'm saying it has to be speculation in this case.

On the other hand, I could be as FOS as anyone else here.

Happy Labor Day

WillieByte, well I'm confused, lol. Since dealers go with either KBB or NADA for trades and resale I don't believe they are too concerned with collecting anything let alone data.
The post is just a topic of which I follow. I like to monitor trends (historical socio-economic related) and have been following the downturn in bike resale/trade values. I fully agree with those who have said bikes are not investments, they are transportation. I was simply surprized at the BIG hit bikes took this year and since we ride Visions the focus was on our bike. If it makes you feel better the Ultra and Wing both took the same hit, lol...

for a dealer trade in I thought. I lost about ten grand but did enjoy the hell out of the tc, zero problems .

I agree with you Mike. Do you still have your '99? If so, does it get much use these days? I've still got my '00SC, and she has given me a lot of great memories over the past 8 years. She is still tagged and insured for the road, but I'll have to admit that since the Vision showed up in the shed, the old girl has been getting neglected a lot lately. Common sense would say that I should sell the SC and use the money for something else, but sentiments dictate otherwise. I've kept her for all this time because no one, including Victory, made anything that I liked better. That is, until the Vision came out. I was just about ready to spring for a GL1800 for a touring bike (keeping the SC) when the Vision was announced. I held off a purchase until I had a chance to ride the Vision. Game over!! The GL1800 is a great touring bike with many great features and assets, but, for me the Vision is better.

Pray tell what "The World" has to do with whether I buy the 10th? Or a 5th for that matter?

All I'm saying is that with all the issues.....maybe it's just like other motorcycles. Sometimes it runs, sometimes it doesnt'. Sometimes it's hotter than hell, and sometimes it's not.

For a bike that's going to take $30K out of my bank account, I don't expect any flaws.

Well, I just got back from a ride on my "old" SC. It's a keeper! I just looked up the resale value on KBB, and it's worth about half what I paid for it 8 years ago, according to them. That means that my amortized cost has run around $56 per month of ownership. Resale value? Who cares. I'm keeping the SC, and my Vision may be my last motorcycle.

Most Dealers are using a new apprasial book called "Black Book" which low balls prices on used vehicles more so than KBB or NADA Guides. Just damm depressing.

Like every vehicle I buy new, (when I buy new ones) I plan to keep them for the long haul. I will be keeping my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer for at least 8 more years. Its paid for and useful when I take my parents places, really bad weather or when I need to take the Vision to the shop for checkups.

I received the Vision on July 3rd. To date I have 1840 miles on it. I plan on keeping the 2008 Vision for at least 10 to 15 years before selling it. Then let the chips fall where they may on resell value. In 2023, I am sure the selling price will be inline with other used luxury touring motorcycles from 2008 with 150,000 miles on them.

FYI, I did not plan on the Vision paying for itself in gas savings. The gas savings (over the Trailblazer) to pay for the Vision is approximately 18 Years or 180,000 Vision miles. I bought it because I liked it, I wanted it and most importantly my wife approved of it. Now that we have it, we both love the Vision.

Advice: Do not buy cars nor motorcycles as an investment. If you do, you will lose money! Hammers drive and pull nails, cars and motorcycles take you places.

Some vehicles do go up in price just none that I buy.
