Thought I would throw this out as some general information. I am playing with etching some logos and or designs on the bottom edge of the windshield. I have a couple Cee Bailey shields and as several of you know, they do not come with the bottom portion blacked out like the OEM shield comes. Therefore you have a large portion of the bottom of the shield that is exposed but
does not come into play when the shield is raised to its top position. Im toying with seeing how the lucite etches with chemicals. If the etch is clean and even, I will look at etching the portion that shows the frame attachment to the shield that was once blacked out on the OEM.
Also considering some cool graphics on the bottom of the shield and possibly laying in an edge around the shield or some type of flame or graphic to add some dimension. Any ideas?
Anyone else interested? Ive also considered that this is a good way to help secure our bikes.
I can etch your name and any identifyable info onto a discreet portion of your shield to help identify it as your bike if stolen... etc. All just thoughts open to ideas

Be very careful, plexiglass and polycarbonate that is stressed by bending or has polished edges can " craze" (crack) when chemicals as benign as alcohol come into contact with the material. I know this from years of screen printing on these materials.

What about etching a design in the shield and then putting some LED's at the bottom of the shield to shine up and really light up the etched design?

I have some scrap CeeBailey plexi that Im going to play with. What started me on this was seeing that the CeeBailey shield did not
have the blackout over the frame that the OEM shield had so the mounts are really noticeable. My thought was either to etch out
the bottom to mask it, or etch something around it to make it look more "intentional". I also considered having black vinyl cut and applying it to the bottom to cover the mount...... just mostly talking out loud here to get others opinions.. I agree with Tarpits,
the chemical reaction can be messy, but thats why i would test it on scrap plexi to see how it did.

mdhass. Remember if you put LED lights on the bottom of it shining up on the shield, you will probably blind yourself at night
trying to look through the shield with the reflection. that would be too dangerous

I've seen a few custom etched shields that have a L.E.D. behind the etching. It backlights the etch and gives it a "glow" but the rest of the shield is "normal", no glare from the L.E.D.

Always looks really cool !!

I'd imagine it takes a little fiddling to get the desired effect without the glare. But the end result would be worth it.

There is some plastic out there has a really nice lighting effect. I did a prototype with it for Busch beer years ago. I engraved the logo in it and when they back lit the piece the lettering had a different color. The floor boss over bid the job and I never saw it come out. Just some nice info in case you get into working with plastic. I don't know the name or where to get the plastic. Busch set me the sample.
