I posted this here so the document can be discussed and improved.

Today I loaded iTunes on my home computer and tried to document the process.

The result is a 12 page guide on downloading, installing, setting up iTunes and finally Syncing with an iPod nano.

The guide can be used as a framework to setup iTunes for the Victory Vision. Now you can take full advantage of the playlists on the nano from your 1-12 radio buttons.

Click the link below to download the PDF document.

Please post any corrections or parts that need to be added to the document. I will happy to receive feedback to make it a better document.

Thanks for the email feedback. I have added three pages to the original document but kept the link the same.

The document now has a Table of Contents and discusses the common issues connecting iPod's to the Victory Vision.

I was thinking of making a companion document in Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) format that can help those with basic questions about the Vision - iPod interface. Do you guys think this would help?

WOW!

Fantastic job, I thought I was computer literate, but I guess I'll need to reevaluate that conceit.
Based on your manual I'm re-syncing my ipod tonight to get radio button playlist control.

I was getting tired of having to listen to (or thumb through) the entire Bob Dylan catalog (which sometimes seems endless) just to get to Muddy Waters or the Stones.

Thanks much.

Thank you very much, Radioteacher. Your guide was awesome! I had been a bit bugged because I couldn't figure out how to do much more with the controls than the volume and switching back or forth one song at a time. I can't wait to try this with my Ipod. Awesome post!!!

JAM,

Thanks. Like all of the instructional documents I make for Ham Radio and now my fellow Vision owners, this will be a "work in progress". It is free for all to use and not for sale. I have tried to add credit to others when their text is used.

Feel free to add it to to the Vision-Riders.com site. I will send you updates so you can update the document on Vision-Riders.com. The main reason I posted it on HamElmer.com is that I own the site and it is easier to post a link than a document.

In the future I will add to the document how to manage the playlists for two iPods on one Library. I did this during Christmas when I loaned the Vision to Santa and he had a Christmas music playing from my other iPod on the Vision Sleigh.

I think an iPod FAQ document would be really handy for most of the basic questions new owners have.

I might consider making other Vision FAQ's in the future. I will however stay away from making FAQ's on religion, politics or what oil to use in the Freedom V-Twin motor.

cw1115,

This post is on the application and consequences of connecting an Amateur Radio radio to the Vision. While on topic with the site, I will use some terms that are common Amateur Radio but not in the normal lexicon of this site.

I have given that a lot of thought. I was thinking of using a mixer on the input of the "GPS audio line in" for radios' audio. In theory, this would mute the music when the radio broke squelch.

I want an Icom IC-7000 with a remote kit for the controls. I could mount the remote kit on the left side bars near the control cubes. DC to daylight on two wheels. I bet that 100 watts on 80 meters would cause problems with the O2 sensors and the computer that controls the motor so power would have to be cut back for HF.

I was also thinking that pre-tuned antennas like the firesticks would be nice screwed into the CB mount for monoband HF operation.

A hitch would be nice to mount a screwdriver antenna to and make it easy to remove as well.

For 2 meters and 440 a dual bander on the trunk would be the way to go.

For APRS tracking. I am going to build a tracker and make a hidden 2 meter antenna on the inside of the saddle bag area and mount the GPS antenna on the inside of the lid of the trunk. Without the trunk I was thinking of putting the GPS antenna under the trunk blanking panel if there is room.

I do not know what your plans and thoughts were but those are some of mine.

The document has been updated with information on the stock 1/8 inch jack, what type of iPods to buy.
