I was hoping that someone could share with me just how much difference in the exhaust note Stage 1 exhaust makes on their Vision. I went from a H-D Sportster w/ Screamin eagle pipes to my '08 Vision. While I have enjoyed the quieter exhaust, I would still like it to sound a bit more authoritative. Any comments?

Personally I think the S1 / L1 pipes are just right for the Vision, not a lot of noise just a nice rumble. Besides the Vision is not the kind of bike that needs a lot of noise to get noticed it turns heads were ever you ride.

I have gotten 'Thumbs Up' from a number of HD guys who have asked to hear my S1/L1 with Gatlins. I love 'em, and I can still hear my sound-system (and my Co-Pilot).

I had Bassanis on my HD-great sound. Compared to them the S1L2 pipes I have on the Vision are very quiet. Only way to get more sound is to put on aftermarkets.

I use the Stage 1/Level 2 pipe. Would not do anything different. Stereo sounds great, never have an issue with my wife wanting to talk to me or point something out. The only time you really hear the pipe is when you drop the hammer on the throttle. I have had customers with Stage 1/Level 1 pipes that sounded louder than my Level 2 pipes. So there is not much if any difference in decible level. Seems more of a tone change than anything else.

one thing about the s1l1 that i read on the package was. they meet ALL the epa regs. and are considered oem. so if johnny law wanted to give bikers a hassle about aftermarket pipes, yours will not be aftermarket.. i think they sounds good. they are NOT LOUD. not even close to loud. they actually kinda remind me of a New muscle car.. like a new mustang or dodge...

All good information, thanks! I like the idea of improved tone, rather than increased decibles. Now all I have to do is come up with the cash.

btw with the stage1 level1 package you get a New higher flowing air filter and you get a card that allows the dealer to recalibrate your fuel injection map. I had mine done yesterday. i didnt have alot of time to ride it as i was trying to out run a thunder storm! but the first thing i noticed was increase throttle response. i was on I-70 and 6 Gear had the most pulling power that i have ever felt on my vision to date. The best thing i like about these pipes so far is. im so used to the stock pipes. (6400 miles stock) and now when i start the bike i remember only the stock sound. and all the sudden you get a more deep Bass sound like a muscle car... i like it.

A small town near were I live has a noise law specific to motorcycles I can go there with the Vision but the Jackpot is another story. The law is no loud or modified exhaust. The jackpot has Ness Slash pipes and even riding cautiously is loud to say nothing of being modified. The first time I was stopped it was a warning the second time was by the same LEO and he remembered the custom paint and remembered he had given me a warning in the past so this time I required to make the obligatory donation.

i hear more and more of local town cracking down on loud pipes and what they do if they dont have a testing tool to verify the loudness of your pipes is, they go by if you have stock pipes or not.. because by law if you read the fine print your not allowed to modify exhaust in anyway..

That's not quite accurate. Most States have laws which state that you can not modify a motorcycle's exhaust in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the engine of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle. Or something along those lines, at least. You can modify, but you can't make it noisier. They also have have provisions for the level of noise (many are right around 95 db) and the procedure for measuring it, like the one outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

For my State the regs are:
Maximum Sound Level (Road): Maximum allowable A-weighed sound levels as measured from 50 feet (Sec. 257.707c): 86dBA at speed over 35mph; 82dBA at speed less than 35mph; 95dBA under stationary run-up test at 75 inches.

Pennsylvania is:
Pennsylvania Administrative Code Title 67, Part I, Subpart A, Article VII, Chapter 157, Subchapter B, Section 157.11, Paragraph a: Max A-weighted sound levels as measured at 50 feet: 84dBA at 35 mph or less; 88dBA above 35mph.
