Northeastern Penna. | I ordered my Utopia backrest with the quick release on Tues. I called up and spoke to one of the
Utopia staff, a very nice woman, about the installation. It states on their website, for the Vision, to measure back 2"on the seat to make your cut. I had asked if you can make the cut at 1", to give a little bit more room for the passenger. They didn't say no, but said as long as you cut into the cushion, you will be alright. She mentioned that the 2" is mentioned in case the cushion doesn't go to the front edge, which it does, on the Vision. |

Buffalo Grove,Ill | I dont know about the passenger backrest but the drivers backrest needs to be in the exact right spot, because as it passes through the seat it fits the seat a certain way to bolt to the seat. Im assuming (there i go again) that the passenger backrest has to be pretty close to where they tell you also. |

San Antonio, TX | I am putting a video together of my install.
There are three parts that really make it support well.
One, the plastic shell of the seat, two the T-Bar that goes under the plastic seat shell and three the upright that goes over and next to the plastic shell. The three pieces should fit together tightly. If you cut it 1 inch instead of 2 inches back the parts wont fit tight together.

Cutting it where they state puts the parts parallel to each other.

San Antonio, TX | I had a question about the cut. Here is my response.
My cut turned out OK. I would do better if I did it again. I did not picture in my mind the purpose for the cut before I did the cut.
If I did it again, I would imagine that..... If I put my hand under the seat, right where the T-Bar goes and push the knife in from above. The knife should go through the foam......then slide along the plastic shell of the seat towards my hand under the seat.

East Ohio | The other thing you need to consider is that you want the back rest to line up with the back of the stock seat, if you cut only 1 inch back, the backrest could be too far forward, it may not look right or possibly feel right

line up,obviously. I guess by cutting it 2" back, the backrest default position, will be that the front of the backrest, will line up with the rise part of the stock seat. |

San Antonio, TX | Besides having short legs, I also have short arms. The top of the back part of the seat (that supports the lumbar area) does not touch my back unless I almost let go of the bars.
I have my backrest leaning forward to support my back, so it does not line up with the seat.
Some day when I have the seat redone, I will have the back part of the seat moved forward about one inch.
