Sorry if this has been posted already, but I just ran across these on PurePolaris. I remember someone saying one was going to be released, but it looks like folks that have a gen4 ipod are in business now.

There is only one with an image, this one (not sure it is for the Vision):

Link to above: http://www.purepolaris.com/Detail.aspx?ItemID=2877195

And this one which is for the Vision (no pic yet): http://www.purepolaris.com/Detail.aspx?ItemID=2877894

Both cost $99..

Looks like I need to revise the iPod document. I will wait till someone has one and I get a positive report on them first.

I'm sure this has already been covered somewhere in the forum but I haven't been able to scour all the pages yet.

Am I correct in assuming that an i-pod is the only mp3 player that can be controlled from the cluster near the left handgrip?

Thanks

Yes and no. The IPod and IPhone will work with this and give you the inputs on the dash. So, technically, you are correct. But you can't forget that I use my Iphone almost every long ride that takes me remotely away from the radio towers since we all know how awesome the reception is with a stock antenna.

Is this a new and improved version that will help the ipod work better? MIne is brand new and has locked up twice, dealer updated download stuff, and it appears to be doing the same lock-up prob... Could this cable be the fix for this issue?

It works but according to a number of folks it doesn't charge without the an adapter connected in between the cable and your ipod. So when your ipod dies on the road, you know why.

Does any one know if Victory will swap out the newcable for the old one? Or do we need to buy it, and pitch the old one. With the adapter on it is too long to velcrow in, and I still have issues with lock up. I don't have latest flash, but I'm headed to the dealer next week., for an upgradr flash, and a leaky gas cap issue that has been getting worse. It went from a smell when new, to a drip upon acceleration, or a sharp right hand turn. That gas on a hot pipe scares me. And No I didn't let the fill nozel rest in the tank to bend the flange.

I think the one in the pic is for the 2010 vision is has two connectors at the end. It also has a extension so you can put your IPod in your saddle bag. I did hear they made one for 2008 and 2009 that will work for all generations. Don't know if they have extensions.

Mfoster, if you have a 3rd gen Nano, and not one of the itouch or iphones, this sounds just like what was happening to mine. Turned out it was the cable, it was shorting out. Bought a new one and everything worked great. It was even faster switching between songs, not as much lag.

I have said this time and again, secure your ipods in your compartment. I have been thru 3, on my 4th, cable in a year. The connection on the cable breaks down from all the vibration and will lock up on you. My dealer has replaced all of mine for free, but I don't want to keep running down there for one every other month.

I bought a $10 hard case at BestBuy and some adhesive velcro and stuck to the side of the compartment. I am now on month 4 with my 4th cable and still going strong. My experience over the past year is that a reflash has never fixed a lockup, it was always the cable.

True, but an Ipod holds a charge for about 21 hours and a wall charger/cigarette adaptor/usb cable combo can be had on Ebay for less than $5.00.  So the only advantage I can see to spend the $$ for the adaptor is so that you can control it from your stereo controls, correct?

Rob41,

Yes the iPod is the only mp3 player supported by Visions control cubes.

Click the link below for more information about the iPod - Vision interface.

Whatever cable you use, I strongly recommend cleaning the cable connector and Ipod with electronic cleaner periodically. I lost an Ipod due to flux buildup. I was listening to the Ipod when a loud "pop" occurred. The ipod was completely dead. I took it to the Apple store and it took the guy 5 seconds with a magnifying glass to say the Ipod had shorted out. I checked my cable and it had visible flux. I always keep the compartment shut. Just some advice. The Ipod was replaced for free since it was less than a year old, but the Apple guy said it the flux had been much worse, it would not have been replaced for free.

Great a new cable, but still not made by Apple. Sorry but I've already burned up one Ipod and I'm not willing to gamble a second. And before someone says "wrong Ipod, bad radio, yada yada" Nope bad cable.... Victory acknowledge this and sent me a brand new cable for free to replace the BAD cable. This is already the 3rd cable thats been on my bike. So whats that saying "three strikes and you're out."

Good point BUT... The dual plugs on the radio side COULD also be for different versions of iPods. Just a possibility but what if... Say you have a 3rd gen or older, we may need to use plug "A" per se and maybe plug "B" would be for newer devices (4th gen and up that only use USB power levels to charge). Or maybe one side is the old style plug AND the other plug is just a direct tap that allows the forementioned extension to the trunk. Or the other side is for the newer bikes and the other plug is the old style. Then it would still be backwards compatible with the earlier bikes and we could use it to run our newer gen iPods (and Polaris could pick up some more sweet, sweet $ from all us that already sprung for the POS cable that doesn't charge current generation iPods). Again just a possibility, we'll have to wait and see. Otherwise this will definitely not work with 09/08's. I'm hopeful that Polaris has addressed the problem with these iPod cables. Not only the power problem; which had more to do with Apple changing up their "standardized" socket pinout, but the quality control problems they have had cranking out junk cables that break down and quit working. I haven't had the latter but I've seen it posted here regularly. I can attest from taking my iPod end connector apart that the cables were made from junk parts. Similar to the junk Korean connectors that you can get on eBay for $1 or $2.

My two cents
I dont know what you guys are doing OR what Im not doing, but I dont have any of the problems you guys seem to have. My Ipod
with the cable and charging adapter plug works 100% on my bike. I dont have pops, lock ups, freying of cables, flux issues nor have I had to replace any part of the set up. SO the question is why is my system 100% perfect yet you guys seem to have all these
issues? No, im not saying "im better then you" crap, im just genuinely curious why there are apparently identical bikes, with identical Ipods, identical cables, yet totally opposing results anyone got any clues?

VP, my guess is it is simply luck of the draw just like it is with any of the other little issues that members have experience. Some issues are pretty much universal on all bikes, some only a few bikes and some are isolated to a single bike. My bike has had radio/Ipod issues since day 1 and it should have been fixed then but it wasn't. As a result I think the radio problems bring out the shortcomings of other stuff hooked to it. Hope that makes sense, lol... I think they had Harley guys build my Vision so they could purposely make stuff break, lmao...

I found an off the shelf item made by Scosche , called the passport, that fixes the stock ipod cables charging problem .

http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/318/productID/1667

They also produce a home-dock with the same funtionality that could theoreticall be mounted in the trunk or saddle bag that would be a secure mounting , charging station.

Now my iphone charges while alowing me to control its ipod features, no problem. Dunno if if would correct any other types of problems though. I am working on a mounting system for the iphone that would mount in place of the GPS on the console to allow touch screen, GPS and app acccess.

There is a Heads - up- display App , that when you lay the iphone on the dash (yes it's secured) Allows multiple electronic displays to be projected in reverse onto the visions windshield!

If you don't have any velcro laying around to use, I bet you have some sponge. I cut a piece of sponge to fit in the glove box bottom and then cut a slit in the middle in which I stick the Ipod. It holds it nice and secure. I used a portion of a car washing sponge I had around.

Great idea!

I have two of the travel tissues holding the phone up (one on each side). I carry them because my S.O. uses them regularly. So, they come in handy for her and I get to use them too.
