Ok, so I've been keeping my Genie garage door opener in the left side compartment next to the tank where you put the iPod. I had it laid in the bottom, and when I washed the bike, some water got in and apparently fried it. So, I was going to get another remote, then I started looking to see if they made garage door openers for bikes. I found a few, the MotoFX, Autoswitch, and Home Link.

The Moto and the Autoswitch all seem to tie into the high beam switch of the bike, which is cool. However, it looks like they are bypassing the Genie rolling code stuff by using their own receiver, which you then tie into the garage door opener. Not crazy about that. Also, the autoswitch or the home link (can't remember which one) adds a button on the handle bar. Not crazy about that either.

So, has anyone used either of these, good or bad things to say? I can get another remote and just try to be more careful when I wash it. Truth be told it wasn't that much water that got into the compartment. But, I do kinda like the idea of a way to open the garage without having to stop and open the door and fumble past the iPod to hit the button.

ANy thoughts or suggestions are appreciate. I would have thought someone would have made a device that ties in, like the MotoFX, but is able to use the Genie intellicode technology. But then, they'd probably have to pay a fee for the use, so it might make it cost prohibitive.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, I did search the forums, but only found one post, not much help, but if someone else finds a better post, I'd appreciate the link.

The best opener I have found is Flash 2 Pass, works great with Gemie openers.  It ties into the motor system and does not affect the
rolling codes in the openers.  I also ties into the bikes high beam circuit.  I ahve used mine for 10 months with no problems!!!

I also have added the other transmiters to my car and truck!

While all of these are good ideas, they are kind of spendy to me.

I actually pulled my garage door opener (spare) out of my drawer and opened it up. I pulled the switch portion out and cut the wires. I grabbed some other wire and extended the length of the wires from the case to the switch to as long as I needed to fit the case on the inside of my fairing (this was on my OLD bike that is now gone). I mounted the switch on the fairing itself in an inconspicuous place so as not to have anybody pull it off or mess with it. But really, it was more for looks and keeping an ugly switch out of view.

I had it on the fairing for a long time and then decided it would attach under the tank. When I did that, I just used velcro to mount the case to the underside of the tank and put the switch back into it. When I wanted it off, I pulled it off and set it aside.

With the swoosh, I could see that you could find a place to velcro or glue the unit to the inside of the bike without it being seen by others. When you pull up, reach down and click.

For twenty bucks you can get a cheapo remote unless you are using rolling codes. Then, I don't know what the cost is. But all the wiring and messing with tieing something into my electric is a pain and something I am very unwilling to do to my Vision. I don't want to have to fight with a loose connection or something else that could cause issues because I didn't do the best job.

I had issues with my old bikes because I started playing to the point that I began to have issues with the electric. Yuck!

Oh yeah! I meant to say too that I wondered how long it would be before this question came up on THIS board. It is always a question on just about every other board I have ever been a part of.

While kind of pricey, Vic just released a homelink transmitter.

Thanks guys. I saw the Homelink thing, like you said, kinda pricey. I may end up just sticking another transmitter in the compartment. The flash2pass thing might be the way I go if I can scrape the money. THanks for the replies.

After looking at the Flash2Pass, that is what I am doing. Thanks for the info, Baddog.

From the Polaris website:
"...Fits all 7/8" – 1" handlebars... "

I guess that rules the Vision out. I'm not sure how many people would want that big honking thing on the bars, anyway.

I starting to think that a cool accessory for the Vision would be a 7/8" bar across the handlebars to mount things like GPS's, MP3 players, this remote thingy, etc.

Odd, i just checked into this myself a couple weeks ago. I went to the Flash2Pass site and while it has photos, it really doesnt say how
it operates. If i go by the photos and limited text, it infers that you have to flash your lights in order to operate the garage door.
What I want to know is, what happens when you are exiting your garage facing away from the garage and transmitter meaning the
lights etc are facing away. Will the unit still work? Now, that being said, what I did works fine. I purchased another
remote opener and programmed it then from HomeDepot, i got a roll of that industrial heavy duty double sided tape, covered the back
with the tape and installed the unit INSIDE the inner left area of the fairing on the aluminum fuel tank portion. (Its right down from the
glove box on the left side. It works great, no one sees it, its protected, and all I have to do is reach down and press the button.

A double flash of the highbeams activates a remotely mounted transmitter, like under the front access panel. As far as the weather "resistant" control offered by Victory, it doesn't list Vision under vehicle fit tab, maybe because the bars are not round. I keep my remote safe and secure in the glove box under my iPhone.

+1 - My OEM garage door remote is under the dash - didn't cost anything, works well and is hidden. Sometimes I think we try to "over tech things" that are sometimes simple easy - JMO

You aren't the first to have an idea like that as I has a Texelent accessory bar mounted on my GL1800 Goldwing for my cup holder and my GPS.  Whlie there are not enough Visions on the road to warrant them redesigning their product to fit, having owned one I can say that I am certain that modifying one to fit a Vision shouldn't be all that hard to do.  Here is a link to the Texelent page that shows all of their current kits:

If you end up sticking another transmitter velcro it to the lid of the compartment. I use mine that way and have not had an issue since the bike was new. Almost 2 years now. Something more compact or stealth would be nice if not too expensive but this works great.

I did find another way. It requires a little electronics knowledge, but I might try it. Basically, take the battery out of the garage door opener. Make it so the button is stuck, then take a switch, run leads to the battery terminals of the transmitter. When you hit the button, it completes the circuit, the button is already activated, and it uses the stock garage door opener.

Yes, it is "over teching" it a but. But, ya know, there is nothing more satisfying, to me at least, to coming up with a clever solution to a small problem. It may only be an annoyance, but if I felt like I did something crafty and "stuck it to the man" (which is in this case the garage door opener companies who don't make garage door openers for bikes) then I feel better.

I'll let you know how it goes, but I already have ideas. Plus, I'm married, so I don't have a life, and things like this allow me projects that don't involve making oiuor home more beautiful. All I care about it comfortable, but apparently asthetics matter more than comfort.

I installed the Flass2Pass and really like the concept. It works great when the door is up. However, it doesn't always work when the garage door is down. I haven't figured out why yet. It may be due the metal garage door. Or, maybe because I mounted the transmitter under the aluminum brow. We all know what that metal brow does to the radio reception. If anyone has any insight on this that they would like to share I would greatly appreciate it.
