I had almost all of the same problems, the last song playing still displayed at times, sometimes just said AUX, and often I would lose the ability to fast forward or skip tracks, etc. I always thought it was just a glitch. Finally on the way to Myrtle Beach (6+ hour trip, it always happens at the worst time, doesn't it?) it quit working almost entirely. At a stop, I played with it and noticed that if I moved the cord, it would cut in and out. Basically, it was the cord. I bought a new cord in Myrtle (actually Murells Inlet Victory, nice folks BTW) and it started working perfectly. It even seemed that it swtiched between songs and playlists much faster. Basically, the cord got a short in it. Hopefully that won't happen anymore. I haven't secured my iPod inside, but I didn't put the cord at a better angle, the first dealer installed it with a sharper bend right after it hooked in. I gave less cable in the compartment, but more slack where it ties in. 4 months so far an no problems. The last cable didn't "die" until almost a year and a half, so maybe I speak too soon, but it was definitely the cable. Not cheap, but it may fix the problems and keep you from having to buy a new iPod and a newer cable when that comes out. That one is expensive, I think it was $100 for the cable. Good luck.

When I had trouble with my 120 GB hard drive Zune eveyone said it was the vibration. I didn't believe it because people jog and mountain bike with these units with no problem. What I found is it's the cable jiggling around in the headphone port. It causes electrical noise that the Zune cannot interpret so it stops. The Ipod probably is seeing the same issue with cable. Since I found this to be the issue, I do not have the problem anymore. I listen to the Zune everytime I ride which is 5 days per week. I've ridden 11 hours straight only stopping for gas and the Zune never had any issues. The last long trip I never turned the Zune off even while I slept and ate. It played 21 hours no problems. I'm convinced my problem with my inital iPod and later the Zune was the loose headphone wire. It cannot be touching the glovebox walls (the headphone wire or iPod cable).

This was probably my issue..the cable was touching the side of the glove box..
