Gettysburg, 2008 Tour Premium | I had been hearing some chirping coming from somewhere but since I ride with a full face helmet and it is quiet could not tell from where and after fully warmed and moving never was an issue. Went to take a short spin today and grabbed an old half helmet and was suprised at how much noise from the rear of the bike. I believe it is all related to the black trim on top of the trunk that the lamps fit into. I had these off to install the rack and they appear to be secure. I will say one of the screws that hold the lamps in appears to be stripped and will secure but not firmly. When it came out it had alot of white on it. I will bring to dealer to cover. I went through all the saddlebag harware and fasteners and checked/snugged up. Nothing seemed to be loose there. Any tips on dealing with the spring clips and the trim to quiet things up? |

LaPorte,Tx. | I always thought is was the lid rattling, so put extra sealant on the gasket to make it fit tighter, no help. I finally found it. Mine is in the speaker covers on the trunk. By taking my index finger knuckle and rapping on all the parts of the trunk I found the speaker covers would make the noise I was hearing, especially the left one. So with a little 3M foam double stick tape in a couple of places at the bottom underside, the noise stopped. There is a little noise in the black trim pieces on the side of the lid, but nothing like the speaker covers were making. |

Mine just flat "rattles". It's as if the rubber seal is too shallow, and the latch isn't tight enough. I've attempted to install small sections of windshield washer tubing over the latch rods on the top half of the trunk (the cover) that catch the latch hooks on the bottom half, but they won't stay on. My next trick is going to try some shrink tubing. I'm going to remove the catch rods (U shaped) from the trunk cover, and slide some shrink tubing over the flat section that has the hole for the screw, then slide it onto the round area where the latch hooks grab. If I can get enough layers of shrink tubing on them, maybe it'll stop rattling.
I've already tried to lower the catch hooks on the bottom half of the trunk, btu they didn't move much at all. You have to loosen the whole lock mechanism, and it just didn't want to move down enough to make any difference.

LONDONDERRY NH | If you are real good you can put a small hole in the trunk seal(it is hollow)and using silicone spray slide a section of vacuum hose inside of it to make it taller-it will close a little harder but be tight |

Gettysburg, 2008 Tour Premium | HondaFixer, did the same on a previous GL1800 only used aquarium air hose. The dealer is ordering the lens. I will have to get the rubber hammer out and go on a rattle hunt. |

| I have fixed this rattle ande squeaking problem! It was the three factory assembled screws on each hinge for the lid. You have to take apart the inner and outer trunk lids, remove the lid lights and the flat black plastic trim to have access to the "nuts" from the hinge bolts. The "nuts" are not really nuts in the normal sense of a nut and bolt (you will see once you take everything apart) so you have to use a pair of locking pliers to hold them as you tighten the allen screw from below with a 4 mm allen wrench.
The way I figure it is that these are what are called thread forming screws, and there are no threads in the "nuts" to begin with (which usually will never come loose) but the Victory assemblers probably install the screws to a preset torque the does not take into account the extra torque needed to form the treads in the "nuts". When I tightened all 6 of my hinge screws they were all loose by at least one full turn, yet they were solidly in the "nut" and wouldn't get any looser or fall out. |

This too is where I found my problem. I just have not had time to take it apart and correct. Like the idea of foam double stick. |

| The nuts in the pictures are NOT the type used on the lid side of the trunk lid hinge, while helpful in addressing saddlebag issues I am sure, it does NOT address the issue of noise due to loose trunk lid hardware which IS the topic of THIS thread. |

Yes the trunk hinge setup is different than the saddle bags. However, the first posting in this thread mentions saddle bag hardware and fasteners. When I got my trunk rattle fixed, I realized the bag rattled too. So, I put both links in my posting in case anyone else encounters the same problem(s). |

Boydsville, AR United States | Want a temp fix for the rest of the summer, and to see if it is realy the trunk latch? Make about 2 or 3 wreps of plastic electrical tape around the loops. yes they wear through, but is will tell you if you need to rebend the loops or not. |

| Just slip .224" heat shrink over the latch hooks and voila problem solved!!!! |

Cabot Arkansas | i installed the anti rattle kit and still had the issue fixed it with a shot of wd 40 on the hinges and it still has not came back |

New Bohemia, VA | There's two places I seem to have rattle, the hinges and the black molding around the lights. It don't bother me enough to worry with it at the moment but it should be an easy fix. Maybe I'll try what stumpy did, shoot it. |

Do you know the bulitin number. I contacted my dealer, and he knew nothing. I've wrapped a couple of turnes of electrical tape around my latch, and it works for about 10 times of opening and closing before I have to do it again. I sure would like a permint fix, instead of bending the latch. |
