Central Maryland | ...without kicking the chit out of the passenger backrests and speaker housing with my boot;
0. while holding left handgrip with left hand
1. put down left passenger foot rest.
2. step on passenger footrest with left foot
3. easily lift right leg over DRIVERS seat
4. step on right drivers floorboard
5. sit down and move left foot to left floorboard
..and pretty much the same thing in reverse; to dismount. Works well. Would seem to be awkward looking (not a traditional way to mount a motorcycle; but it makes it a lot easier with that cargo trunk on the back.

A 'wise' man is one that has already jammed his foot under the rear tip over and learned that the passenger foot rest can prevent a reoccurence of that painful event. |

1. Step over the seat with my right foot.
2. Sit down, start the bike and ride.
Getting off is pretty much just the same thing in reverse.

New Bohemia, VA | unless you just can't do it, high step over the pilot seat and you're in.
I grab the left bar, step over like I'm walking and then skip the left foot in closer to settle in. I've got a 30" inseam and as coordinated as a bull in a china shop, yet I found no easier way.
A concern I have in stepping into the bike using the floorboards, either pilot or pillion, is if it is wet, you may slip. It also puts a lot of pressure from my overweight carcass that I'm afraid it will snap the kick.
Also +1 on keeping the passenger floorboards down --->WARNING<--- the tip-overs will bite, it is just a matter of when, the floorboards are an early warning system to let you know when to get you foot out of the way.

Lol! No, it's not that. My inseam is 30" and my height is 5" 10". It's just almost every time I swing my leg over the seat; my boot hits the edge passenger's pad in the trunk area of the seat (no matter how careful I try to be). The pad material is getting beat up.

| I also used to bump or kick the left speaker and or the right passenger grab rail but I haven't hit either since I started mounting the bike from the right side which is how motorcycle cops are taught to get on the bike so that they are never out in traffic. It's easier than you think once you get used to doing it and it makes getting off the bike much easier too! |

It looks MUCH better than ANYTHING the 'tall' guys do and the girls LOVE it !!! And so does the paint on your bike ....

This is typical of Police officer mouting and dismounting to stay out of the flow of traffic. I am not a MotorCop but this was also taugh at an advanced riders course I took as the safer way (if the kickstand isn't deployed or gives way, and the bike starts to go you don't have the chance of being pinned...and with tip-over-protection if it goes no big deal). 
I actually find this easier too because if you think about it you are clearing the high side with your left foot as your first step and since your foot wants to naturally go downward as you straddle the seat, it now follows the flow of the bike which is leaning left rather than scrapping the seat or kicking the back rest. Haven't kicked by seat in a long time.
It works well for me. |

Thanks HLUSN8... I might try that.... but I'll have to move the kickstand to the right side so I'm out of the traffic out here in Australia....... hmmmmmmm........but then I'll have to mount from the left side .
I don't have a problem swinging my leg over the trunk at 6'7" (although any low flying birds in the immediate area are in danger ), but I have to agree that it sure is easier to slide the leg over the seat from the right..... I might do it more often .....

Well, I'd like to be thought of as being that cool, but the antenna on the side of the trunk keeps me from attempting this... LOL. You would find me curled up on my side, whimpering like a little girl... But I do step in from the right side. For some reason my left thigh started cramping up once in a while when I got on from the left. No problems since I started mounting from the right. It's easier for me to go up and then gradually over and down, rather than up... and up... and up... and over! And I don't scuff anything up this way, either. |
