I've been drooling over the new Visions and scheduled a test drive the Bill's Service Center, in Stratford ,Wis. The State closest dealer ,63 miles about the same to the BMW dealer ,so no big deal, I have a 1982 R100 RT ,it was new in 82 when I got it ,paid $4100.00 for it and I guess its still worth that much,$4100.00
But I don't think the value of the money is even close. The Vision looks really comfortable and as I have gotten older and a little portly ,ok fat and The State of Wisconsin says I can put collector plates on the BMeer its time to get a new bike that being said ,I have some questions
1, What does this bike get for milage
2,if Im 6'1" should i get a tall windshield
3,does the blue tooth thing work like an intercom, hey Im 55
4, does the radio work ok or am I going to have to get XM or an Ipod
5, can I work on this bike ,IF I have to,can I do routine maintenance remember Im use to 1982 technology
Well wish me luck ,hey and it comes in my favorite color BLACK

Welcome, Henry.

1. Visions average between 45-50 mpg stock.
2. You are right on the border there. I am 6' 4" and have a taller windshield, but not Vic's. If you want the best taller windshield, look at CeeBailey (www.CeeBaileys.com). From them you can get a version 2" taller than Vic's tall version.
3. Not sure what you mean by bluetooth? There is no radio / comm integrated bluetooth. You might be thinking of the GPS with bluetooth.
4. Radio reception is HORRIBLE and a complaint of most here. Some have even tried amplified antennas with little to no improvement. Get the iPod cable and iPod and /or XM. I have both and use my iPod the most. Haven't even tried the radio in over a year. It is that bad.
5. Routine Maintenance - changing oil? Piece of cake.

Very well engineered bike. 3,does the blue tooth thing work like an intercom, hey Im 55 My 2008 does not have Blue Tooth 4, does the radio work ok or am I going to have to get XM or an Ipod Radio works fine, especially oon the 2009 and up models. I have a 2008 and use my IPOD 99% of the time. 5, can I work on this bike ,IF I have to,can I do routine maintenance remember Im use to 1982 technology VERY easy to maintain. Also, VERY low maintenance required. Get a good deal and ride.

1) I do a lot of commuting, 3rd, 4th, and a little 5th gear on an average day. Never did an accurate calculation but I'd say an average of between 30 and 35 mpg.

2) I'm 5'10" and the shield is a tad high for me. You should be good with stock. Most I've talked to always run full down and only raise it for really foul weather or riding 2 up.

3) No bluetooth on a Vision (unless 2010 has something I haven't heard of). But I do use a SENA bluetooth intercom.

4) 2008 and 2009 radios are crap. I have 2010 are good. But if you get a new 08 or 09 it will come with a 5 year warranty so you will have the ability to get it up to 2010 standards.

5) Yes. It is actually a pleasant machine to work on.

Like any machine, it has it's moments but they are worth it. I hope this info helps but I think it's academic. After you do the test run they won't be able to get you off it.

Good Luck!

Welcome Henry. You'll enjoy the Vision, I have for 67,000 miles in less than 2 1/2 years. I'll try to help answer what I've learned.

1, What does this bike get for milage
Depends, in winter, as low as 36mpg, and in the summer as high as 44. Mostly around 38 - 40 for mine.
2,if Im 6'1" should i get a tall windshield
I ain't no 6'1" but the wind management is excellent, to the point I only put the windshield up when the wife unit rides. In the summer time I use the stock, in the wintertime I use the tall shield. I've been thinking of getting the shorty here lately, especially if I ride to the mojave.
3,does the blue tooth thing work like an intercom, hey Im 55
don't know, I have not gotten any aftermarket bluetooth devices to include the GPS, I've heard others add it and make it work though.
4, does the radio work ok or am I going to have to get XM or an Ipod
I use my radio here lately since my Ipod is on the bum. I can pick up all of my favorite stations and it works quite well, however, it is not a powerhouse.
5, can I work on this bike ,IF I have to,can I do routine maintenance remember Im use to 1982 technology.
The work on the bike can be tedious because of all the body work. However, to date I've replaced the belt, exhaust manifold gaskets and the steering stem bearings with little trouble. Keep in mind though I have not garage so I'm truly a shade tree mechanic in a gravel driveway. I also pull my own tires to take to the dealer for changing and change my own oil. For a new bike I've not been afraid to work on it and have enjoyed getting to know it even better.

Hope that helps, I don't mind helping out a cheesehead. Spent two years in Elroy and even pulled a teet or two while there. Never could go green and gold though --- Redskins! There's always next year...

Henry, first of all, this is the #1 place on getting info on the Vision and welcome. If you make the decision to go with the Vision, I believe it will be a good one for you. At 63 miles for service, that's not too bad for a Victory, if he sells a lot of Victorys and has a good Victory mechanic, he will be an asset to you in time. For working on the bike, a lot of us do our own maintenance, some do only routine maintenance, and some of us get the service manual and attack about anything. If you live in a rural area, the radio is marginal. In a large city, you will recieve more stations. Many have the XM, some have XM through their GPS, some have Sirius recievers, and then there's the Ipod and MP3, it all depends on the $$ you want to spend. No Blueteeth these that I know of, yet. You would have to add yourself, if you can find. There is a lot of discussion on the site on this matter right now. Stay tuned. Tall guy like you, you're going to love this bike...remember on most Visions there is the power windscreen. It moves up and down ~4". Mileage is 30 to 50 depending on how you ride. Hope you get your new ride and if you have questions, just ask.

Henry welcome. I have a 10 and put everything on it but XM. I have an old roady that I can throw in the trunk and get XM with. It is a lot cheaper than the Vic unit. Good luck and enjoy.

Welcome Henry, I'm new to the Vision world also. I've had one about a month and have a little over 2000 miles on mine. I rode up to Charlotte from the west Atlanta area and averaged 46.5 MPG on I-85 going about 4-5 over the posted speed limits. I also have a Harley RoadGlide and the Vision is way more comforatble. I think you will really enjoy your Vision.

Welcome from the Great White North
Other than the radio issue, and it's an issue here as I live three hours from anywhere. The bike is as user friendly as it gets. I would ride for a bit and see if the adjustable windshield works for you. Some guys are 6' 1 and all legs while others are all body. I'm 6' but it's all round. lol
Mileage has ranged from low 30's to high 40' it's in the wrist action. All in all its a great riding experience in any weather.

Enjoy

Welcome Henry I'm 6 foot and fat too. My Windshield is great never had a bike with one before . The radio is spotty I put a $15.00 MP 3 player in the glove box with the stock hook up and the tunes play great. I ride two up most of the time and the lady who wanted a "Touring Bike" is very happy.

As far as Black goes it is the fastest color Victory makes but keep that quiet or the white red and blue ones will stop being sold and the Dealers will blame us.

Ride safe , often and take lots of pictures

Welcome Henry,

Looks like all your questions have already been answered. I would recommend one thing and it is a must-have. Get the lower wind deflectors. You can see them in Thomas's photo above attached to the side of the fairing.

Hope you enjoy it.
