I was searchng for the cause of some front fender rattling and to my surprise it was the rear section of the front fender. The pins that connect it to the metal front fender broke off. I purchased the pins and found out they are plastic expansion pins. That is it has a sleeve that inserts into the rear plastic section thru to the metal fender. then you put in the male fitting and it all expands. I can't seem to get the assembly to fit. Anyone had to replace these. The front tire is in the way.

Replace the back half of the front fender a month ago, did not have any issues with the plastic connectors at the top of the fender. I reused the old connectors on the new fender half. They released from the top and were put back in from the top, so I don't know how the tire is an causing you any problems. Attaching the rear half to the forks was a bigger issue in having and Allen wrench to fit in with the wheel in place. But it can be done.

48, the male portion is like a key, slotted to one side. that has to be lined up and it will go right in. As VT said, it all can be done with the wheel in place. I've had the front a part many times with no issues.

Thanks to you both for the help, I'll try an Allen wrench.

what are you using the allen wrench on. Of course it is my confusion and just need to sort it out. The rear portion is held on by two allen screws, one each side on the inside of the fender portion to the forks. The front is held on by 4 allens, two each side on the outside, to the forks. Then the plastic attachy thingys hold the two fenders together. The female portion is inserted first, then the male which is like a key, goes in the female piece to lock it in. The allen wrench size is the large allen in your toolkit with the bike.

WELL WOULDN'T YA KNOW IT, MY REAR FENDER BROKE AT THE TWO SIDE BOLTS. I HEARD SOMETHING KNOCKING ON THE WAY TO WORK AND ON MY WAY HOME THE STEER FELT LIKE IT HAD GAVE OUT. I THOUGHT I BROKE A TUBE BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE FENDER STUCK ON THE LOWER FAIRING. YES I HAVE A MUD FLAP. THE WEEKEND I'M GOING TO PUT STEEL GIRDERS ON THERE TO MAKE SURE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. CALIFORNIA OR BUST - SWIMMING POOLS, MOVIE STARS, BUT THERE WON'T BE ANYWHERE I'LL BE. MORE LIKE BLISTER BAGS AND HEROS (FORT IRWIN)

I had the right side break last year on the way to the AVR, duct tape kept it on for the next 1500 miles.

got mine fixed, hopefully forever. Put strapping metal strips on the inside and cut and lined the holes up to the forks. Had to use washers to make it work the thickness, but mounted you just don't know it's patched up.
