Guys, there aren't enough Visions around here for me to listen to the differences. So once again, I need your help.

Do I want S1L1 or S1L2?

Here's what I hope for. While cruising, I want the bike to be pretty much as quiet as the stock pipes. When I twist the throttle fast, I want increased performance over stock, but I don't want "Harley with drag pipes" loud either. I expect it to be louder, but not really loud and especially not obnoxious.

At the end of the day, I don't want Goldwingers saying "I'm not riding behind you, you're too loud!"

After saying all that, it boils down to increased performance and keeping it as quiet as possible.

What say you?

S1L1 based on your goal. I would also consider the Atom Bombs.

Gold Wings make about as much noise as golf carts. If that's the standard, perhaps you should leave the stock exhaust alone.

Do you really care what someone else thinks about your bike? Just sayin......

Atom Bombs. I love mine and they have a deep rumble, but not much louder than normal at highway cruising speeds.

I'm using the $500 Victory certificate for these.

And somewhere I picked up the idea that S1L1 deepens the note, but doesn't really add power that you can feel. May be that's a point I mis-understood?

If you want quiet, leave the stock exhaust on. The stock exhaust has already been proven to flow enough to support 130 horsepower from a 116 inch Vision motor. Loud does not equal more performance. In a lot of cases, you're doing good if you change your exhaust and you don't lose power somewhere in the operating range.

Oftentimes, a different pipe may show an increased PEAK horsepower of a couple of ponies at a particular RPM, but a decrease at another point, usually lower end torque, when compared to the stock pipe.

The psychology of spending $500 - $600 on a different exhaust and getting an ear ringing sound always makes a bike "faster". The dragstrip tells a different story.

If you want a different sound than stock, that is another story; go for it, but don't expect to get more performance because you changed the exhaust on a street motor.

Cams and S1L1 - so I'm told, I'm still running stock.

As far as the what a winger will say? Who cares, they'll always be behind...

As stated above, the exhaust isn't the best performance mod on a VV. Check out the dyno on Smkn 3, runing STOCK EXHAUST on Lloydz home page.

http://www.quickvic-usa.com/default.asp

Invest your $5-600 in cam's for the best bang for the buck. Take another look at the dyno charts for the VV on Lloydz site and you will see what you can expect from stock vs S1L1's. [a little better TQ curve] Then check out the graphs on the Cam's.

AS in all things performance, I encourage you to give Lloydz a call and discuss your goals and he will help you develop a strategy that makes sense for you and your short and long term budget.

ps. He has been know to do a "Lloydz modification" to stock exhaust to get a bit better sound and numbers.

S1L1 and cams will give you just what you are looking for in sound, and more power as well.

S1L2 sound good on acceleration, still quiet at cruise. But they're one piece, so you can't add Gatlins for that cool look, or put cherry bombs in like the ones that are just a cover over the mufflers. Mine came to me with them, as I bought used, so I don't know if they make the scooter faster than stock or not.

Have SL 2s--nice deep sound at idle, quiet at cruising speeds, still a little too quiet on accel.
Seriously considering the Cycle Dragons and only about $400

Gurnz,, check out the Atom Bomb mod on your L2 exhaust,,, you keep the fit and look of L2 but the performance and sound is MUCH better,, more low end torque and very nice low rumble! . Had the same thing and did the upgrade to Bombs,,, cost only $200,,14 days turn around,,, GREAT bang for the buck!

Guys, I'll be using the $500 certificate from Victory. It has to be something from the Factory catalog.

The Goldwingers are close family. So it does have a little bearing on the case.

I'm still "listening!"

OK Danny, I know this not what you want the hear, but......

If I was in your exact position as I know it, I would spend my $500 cert on Victory stuff like jackets, gloves, etc etc that are useful to you and you cannot buy anywhere else but Victory.

Unfortunately, there is very little from the Victory hard parts book that is "the best in class" for performance or even sound. I would spend my cert on something that makes sense to me, reserve/save my other funds for truly best in class stuff, including a exhaust system that sounds better AND adds a little kick now or in the future combined with other stuff [like cams]. Specifically, the man recommends D&D slip on's as the best for the VV.

The good news is that the stock exhaust that you all ready own and is all ready on the bike is not restricting your motor to any significant degree. It even sounds better stock than the GW that you ride with. Drive the s@#$ out of it, enjoy, and when you want to do something for a better kick and better sound, do it the right way and save money in the long run and set yourself up for future enhancements.

That my 2 cents, because I have been there, done that.

As has already been suggested, use your $500 certificate for jackets, or lower deflectors, bike cover, or something else that you will find useful. I wouldn't waste it on an exhaust system if you truly want your bike to remain quiet. Like you, I ride with Goldwings, and used to have one myself.

The dyno chart I have for a 2004 GL1800 shows 96 horsepower and 104.1 torque at the rear wheel.

Your stock Vision is probably generating about 85 HP and 100 TQ. There are lots of Visions out there now that are getting 110 to 120 horsepower and 110 to 120 torque with only a set of Lloydz VM1 cams, an intake plate, and a fuel controller. Fuel economy is not negatively affected, and many even report an increase. These three things will give you more power than a Goldwing. If you add Lloydz reprogrammed ECU, you will gain a bit more power yet, and your top speed will be higher than the 129 -130 MPH that the Goldwing is capable of. As you probably know, the stock ECU on the Vision artificially limits the top speed of your Vision to 120 MPH in 6th gear. If you want more power, Lloydz has a balanced, proven package of cams, intake plate, and fuel controller. The reprogrammed ECU really lets you take full advantage of the other mods. It all works very well with your stock exhaust.

Just a Stock S1L1 or a S1L2 setup on the Vision will put right around a Gold wing at 96-98 Hp and 108 Tq.
